Post your Thanksgiving meal-plan/recipes here.

None of you are helping! So far, I am settled on making a cranberry jam concoction that I made once before where I cook the cranberries with tons of sugar, cinnamon and some nutmeg, then spread it on some baked oatmeal kind of thing--essentially it's a granola bar. Then serve with ice cream. Fine, I'll make that. It's not healthy, but it's tasty.

Personally, I've never been able to eat the canned stuff either, blech. Gelatinous stuff is kinda creepy.

Serve a cranberry juice based punch/cocktail? :)

Have you considered raw or dried cranberries just served by their lonesome? I love 'em myself.

not to mention great presentation sprinkled next to the turkey.

canned cranberries is yuk!

I agree 100%. It's funny that some families, including mine in previous years, will go through the trouble of making the turkey and all the sides, then just slide the cranberry sauce out of a can onto a serving dish, and maybe cut the sauce into little slices. Ridiculous.

That'd be awesome for me, my mother and my aunt, but my brother only drinks beer and his gf doesn't drink.

Hmm, an excellent idea though...vodka, cranberries, either lemon or lime, some cinnamon and a lot of ice...after I'm done with that I won't care if anyone likes what I cooked. :p

Good idea. Why go to the trouble of cooking them, when I can just fling some raw ones at 'em? :)

This is a no brainer, hon. Melt the cranberries down with a little sugar, add liquid to make a chunky glaze, and pour it on top of a cheese cake :)

Good stuff!

So, as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to make cocktails out of the cranberries, save some raw ones to flick at people who don't drink and make a cheesecake just for the sake of making a cheesecake.

lol...

Anyways...

At our house...I haven't really thought much about it but if I decide to cook, the menu will probably go something like this...

Roast turkey breast; brined, using this recipe:

Dressing (with sausage...yummy)

Two veggies, probably broc/cheese casserole and carrots w/ bacon & onion, both recipes are in this post:

Pecan pie for dessert

I am wondering is broccoli casserole a southern thing? As a Florida yankee I never had it until my ex who was half Texan/half Georgia boy. (I stole his recipe and we have it each year at thanksgiving :D)

It attached itself to my ass and thighs in a cottage cheese like formation :)

lol...You aren't alone here!!!

Hmm...Chocolate cheescake sounds like an awesome idea instead of the usual apple pie. Still have to have the pumpkin pie, though. It serves as breakfast the morning after.:)

Did you guys ever eat Menudo? It is wonderful for a hangover. My dad used to make it and forced us kids to eat it. It was the worst junk I ever tasted like a fuzzy door mat. The sauce was good though

I have one holiday cooking thing I do. You get whole, shelled, blanched filberts (hazelnuts). Put them in a pan, add worchershire sauce, butter and some spices (garlic, onion powder, some salt and warm it up over low heat for 10 minutes or so. Then spread the mixture on a shallow baking pan and bake at 200 deg in the oven for a hour and a half or so. Stir pretty frequently. Once they cool, they'll be crunchy. A variation is to use powdered hidden valley ranch dressing instead of the stuff above.

A shortcut is just to place the shit in a bowl and nuke it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Either way it's a good healthy (maybe) snack.

I buy a 20 lb box from a local packinghouse, cost about 25 bucks last time. Im not sure if bulk shelled filberts are available everywhere, they are grown around these parts in large numbers. Other nuts would probably work too, but the cooking times would have to vary based on nut density, I should think.

Thanksgiving is the one day every year that I eat turkey. A slice of white meat, a slice of dark, some gravy and whatever kind of cranberry sauce you can throw at me (prefer whole, also enjoy the orange spiced as well as canned).

One of my friends gave me an amazing recipe for sweet potatoes, he claims he hates sweet potatoes with marshmallows and crap, but this one he likes.. It's cause it has two layers, a layer of sweet potatoes mildly sweetened with brown sugar and mildly spiced, with a crispy, crunchy delicious layer of pecans, brown sugar and marshmallows and crap on top. I don't have it here, but if anybody is interested I might be able to dig it up.

I also have a recipe somewhere for really good avocado pie. I've made it before where it came out better than pumpkin pie, but instead of brown, it's green. Other than that, the texture and flavor is almost identical to pumpkin pie.

We always drink sparkling apple cider, or variations of.

Appetizers are usually chips, dips, soup and shrimp.

Other than that, all the typical dishes with maybe some green beans. I love cooking, but there are plenty of other people always taking the helm, I'd just get in the way of those who want it more.

I'm always in charge of making the Green Bean Casserole, and since my boyfriend is visiting for Thanksgiving I am going to be doing mostly all of the cooking this year. Planning on making my family's usual 'Italian Stuffing,' making my boyfriend's favorite, Cornbread, making home-made Bruschetta...

I'll probably end up making Cranberry Sauce, since everyone in my family loves it. Spinach Pastry Puffs I always wanted to have. but never got around to making. Maybe Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifles for desert.

It's all up-in-the-air, but I am excited about doing most of the work this season :p

// Oh, and I never follow set 'recipe's' I always add in my own flair or flavor :) Otherwise that would be boring. Plus I think the Italian women in my family would beat me if I followed step-by-step :)
