How is this common knowledge? That would be a better question. When the fuck did everyone just start assuming that everyone who hates or even remotely opposes alternative sexual lifestyle communities must necessarily be a closeted member of said community? Why does everyone "know" this now?
Because what it really seems like is a bunch of liberals got together and decided to play psychiatrist and everyone just followed along. Nobody even questions it despite the fact that there's absolutely no basis for it.

I wouldn't think this would be a minor issue to a parent that has a teenage girl. I don't think that most parents would be too happy about their teenage daughter showering with boys. If Rand were smart he would focus on these issues and increase his popularity with social conservatives. But unfortunately so far he's taken your advice, and the result is that he's at 2% in the polls. He refuses to take a strong stand on these issues and stand with social conservatives on the issues where there should be full agreement between libertarians and social conservatives.

This was an article about a person with male body parts who sued to be able to shower with girls. He was already allowed to use the women's restroom. In a woman's restroom you use a stall where no one can see what you're doing. That's quite a bit different from allowing someone with male body parts to shower with teenage girls. And they already gave this kid his own locker room to shower. He wasn't forced to shower with boys. But that still wasn't good enough for him.

I don't know how universal this is (I'm guessing it's fairly universal because girls in HS tend to value privacy... it's an awkward time), but in my high school's locker room, each shower had its own curtain and each toilet had its own stall. I had gym for four years, including an aquatics unit, and never once saw anyone strip down or even inadvertently expose an area that is usually covered.
It is certainly not anything resembling a communal shower, as you seem to be implying. I have no idea how something like this would be enforceable, anyway. I'm envisioning something like "vagina checks" (or penis checks in the case of trans men): whenever any female walks into a public bathroom (without loss of generality), she'll have to loudly announce to everyone, "I have a vagina! I am allowed to be in this bathroom because I have a vagina!" And if anyone questions her, well, I guess she'll just have to flash the bureaucrat in question. "Look, I really do have a vagina. You are safe now." Now, as awkward as it was to type out how enforcement of these bathroom laws would have to go, the actual enforcement would be unbearably awkward for everyone involved. But that is the kind of mentality these bills promote. "If you would like to be in the bathroom with these young girls/boys, first you're going to have to expose yourself to them." Yay, I feel safer already.
