My brother and I went down to NYC to do a little street canvassing. Ended up giving away gold to the tune of a 200 CfL flyers. We,also, did a bit of traditional, and guerrilla, bill posting to the tune of 150 r3vmarch posters
Had a great response.
There was a reading of the constitution at Strawberry Fields in Central Park. We were late, but the remaining crowd was receptive and we started the day off well. A good place to get into the flyer hand out groove. We walked around the park a bit, got a few flyers out. We were stoked to catch these afrobatics guys. They must have been making close to $1k/hour and earning every dollar.
Then we got in the car and went uptown to Columbia U. It started downpouring, so we didn't spend too much time and only put up a few posters
driving back downtown towards NYU we stopped at one of my bros favorite health food places and reminded me how most health food stores are receptive to our efforts
We stopped in Union Square where I hit my stride on the hand-outs. The park-benches were filled. Basically, I just walk passed silently offering a flyer. If something clever appears to quietly say, I do. In this case one of the first to grab one said, "Ohh, goody! Some propoganda!" This made her neighbors smile and everyone stated grabbing one. Futher on I played on that, "Some propoganda to read?"/etc. It was classic and got most everyone to smile, and a large percentage of takers. Walking away I would say something like, "It's a new organization, check it out". My brother used, "its a new org based on an old principle." With variations of that we were cooking. I was passing them out in rows and heard a voice behind me, "excuse me!", turning to see a guy who says, "I just want to thank you and to say keep up the good work." Turns out he was one of the originators of the "tea party", and "hadn't been on rpfs in a while" (I hope Steve reads this and speaks up, I never got your screen name). It was classic
Had lots of people thanking us, lots of conversations, lots of success. I lost some of my best pics when my camera decided to start taking vid in my pocket and I did a hasty delete.
All in all a productive 4th and it was spectacular to be in the crowd downtown for the fireworks display that seemed to go on forever. Here are some more pics
and finally, on the way home, Ground Zero
I hope you all had a safe, productive, and enjoyable holiday as well
