Hello all,

I am hoping that RP gets really aggressive tonite and constantly refers to the constitution to support his plans. Also, I hope he TAKES equal time - just keeps talking - @#&^@ the moderator.

Also, I would like to see RP reach the people who may be tuning into the 2008 election for the first time. Many people may have been tuning it out because by Super Tuesday the "herd has thinned out" and they know they have fewer choices. That's a lame reason but that's people...

RP needs to knock this one out of the park with simple statements that a typical voter can rally behind or at least energize the undecided to really consider him.

If he stays away from the really deep explanations and (I hate to even say it...) appearing TOO smart and going over the typical voter's head... he might reach enough new people to get the momentum he needs for the convention...

So what simple, brief, one/two sentence "zingers" would you like to hear tonite that might be repeated at the water cooler tomorrow? What soundbites would you like to hear?

Some of mine are:

"It doesn't matter which of those candidates you vote for - a vote for them means we go to war with Iran. A vote for me means that YOU get to decide that."

"I won't go to war with Iran without the support of the people - not because I want it - but because the constitution won't allow me."

"Want more help and programs at home? Then let's bring our military home and use the money we would have spent blowing up other countries rebuilding ours."

"Remember... when you place an X to vote for the other candidates - democrat or republican - you are signing a contract that states "I hereby grant the government to take over my life".

more soundbites

"When you look back at what other candidates promised in earlier elections, it sounds the same as what they are promising now. It didn't work then, it won't work now, and it won't work in the future."

"Look - There is simply no way a Pro-War candidate is going to win an election when 70% of the nation is against the war. We, as a Party, can either do the job we are elected to do by the citizens of this great country, or we can watch the election go to a Democrat. I say - Listen to the people, and Obey the Constitution!"

hehe... hammer down the hint that if the GOP nominates a pro-war candidate that its obvious they dont want to win ;)

more

"Most politicians are always trying to earn your trust. I am not asking for it tonite because I trust the people.

I trust you to make the best decisions for your families, I trust you to make the best decisions for your states, and I trust you to make the best decision for your nation.

I know you will all make the right decision for our future and vote for a new path for America - the same path we started on."

I hope he doesn't mention the war in Iraq.

At the same time, he needs to stress the importance of a STRONG national defense. This is where he seems to be weakest. He also needs to come out with a plan for dealing with the world and the threats around the world. He really needs to push the doctrine of Marque and Reprisal, and educate the American People as to it's value for a President, and to mention his support for an amendment or legislation to give the president the power of the Letter of Marque and Reprisal. That alone could stun the opposition.. I'm not sure how they would counter it except to mock and say "that's for pirates".

budgeting

"In each American household, you can only spend what you earn but right now each one of you may be overspending to keep your head above water in hopes of brighter days ahead.

If we continue on the same path of runaway spending, I am here to tell you those days will never arrive

If it's a bad idea for you, why do both parties think it OK to spend government money the same way?"

Agree! He needs to change the perception that he's weak on defense because he most certainly is NOT. He ought to ask why we BRAC bases here and build them overseas.

But for some soundbites:

Peace through strength. Speak softly but carry a big stick.

Find some good Reagan quotes on this and copy them.

FOr one I would like to hear as many RP soundbites as John McCain soundbites. That would be a good start.

Ron has NEVER has good solid soundbite answers to debate questions.

It frustrates me how he always goes into these things unprepared. All his answers seem to come from his reservoir of Libertarian talking points and the result is a jumbled mish mash of stuff that leaves the average person scratching their head. Instead of cramming all his libertarian philosophies into one answer, he needs to prepare clear, concise focused answers the average voter can relate to. We all love his honesty but guess what? All great public speakers and communicators PREPARE talking points and answers to questions. It has nothing to do with being fake or insincere. It has everything to do with presenting your ideas in the most favorable light possible, and Ron just doesn't want to do it. It really really frustrates me.

are you kidding me? debating is not easy but Ron Paul puts together some great points and has gotten over 30m. in donations because of it.

"I promise you this, we can no longer afford this occupation. It will end. For the safety of our soldiers, we must end it on our terms, not on the terms of our creditors. No soldier will be safe when the checks start bouncing."

"It's time we stop looking at Washington, DC for answers to our education crisis. We need to keep education funding and decision making local. Teachers and Parents- not Bureaucrats and Lobbyists."

"People don't want to hear doom and gloom about the economy.- and I am not here to do that, but I am not going to overlook this looming obstacle. I am optimistic about our future because of the strength of the American people- not because of some half-baked plan out of Washington DC. If you did accounting like the government does, you'd be in jail. My plan is to let you keep more of your money, reduce spending to keep our dollar strong, and not let federal regulations hamstring growth. My plan is nothing more than free market capitalism. They call me old fashioned for believing in such things, but I think most Americans feel the same way I do. That the farmer knows how to plant, the teacher knows how to teach, the pastor knows our to preach, the businessman knows how to conduct business- the politicians should know how to stay out of their way."

Ding ding! we have a winner..

May I also add the following:

"jon likes to do a lot of what he calls 'straight talk' about a 100million dollar bridge here or a billion dollar weapons package there...well jon, let me give you and everyone listening tonight a little bit of Ron Paul straight talk... We are spending 8billion dollars a month in Iraq... and the reason we are in a recession right now and will continue to be in one is because we spend over a trillion dollars a year on foreign nations abroad, be they the occupations of Iraq and afganistan, or the needless bases in germany and japan and the way we get that trillion dollars is by either having the FED print it out of thin air or we borrow it from China. America, you need to decide.. Do we continue to spend that money abroad or do we save it here, at home... on our own people.. 1 trillion dollars, think about that while Jon straight talks about a 100 more years in Iraq or promises that there will be more wars with more nations... The cost in lives alone should warrant a second look, but I say, the cost in treasure each and every month demands it.

Of course, this would have to be delivered calmly and with a force/tone imbued with both courage and moral superiority

Knock off the parroting about disbanding the department of education on every domestic question. Once is enough.

Dumb it down to a 70 IQ level (this is tough for Paul because I believe his IQ is at least in the 130's).

Come out strong on national defense, flesh it out, ARMED NEUTRALITY. Don't just mention the cold war, detail how the strategy would be used for the war on terror.

Mention the endorsements!

Foreign policy:

  • Keep an unbeatable military.
  • Uphold the Constitution and US sovereignty: Declare the war, fight it, win it, and come home.
  • Fight terrorists with intelligence and special units to keep our conventional forces free and ready for major conventional threats.
  • Secure our borders and enforce our visa laws to stop terrorists.
  • Maintain financial security through sound money, fiscal conservatism, and non-intervention (the smart way of being globally active)—You can’t win a war when you’re bankrupt.
