What are you listening to?

One more to warm you up. Donna Summer had one of the best voices I've ever heard and this remix makes good use of the raw center tracks in the very beginning. This is so worth hearing. RIP.

If ever you see me make reference to "packing one's bags", this is where I picked that up.

I went to Mabuhay Gardens once. Dead Kennedy's, 1979. Wish I'd have gone more often but it was a long drive.

Why go to the Fab Mab when The Omni, One Step Beyond and the Keystone had better bands?...

Depends on how you define "better".

I liked Dead Kennedy's just fine. :)

Besides, I was not familiar with any of the others you named. My grounds were in NYC.

Consider CBGB, one of our hangouts. It was small. It was shitty. It was FILTHY. The bathroom was... well, it was the bathroom and anyone who'd ever gone there would know what I mean. The boys room was basically unisex as well. And despite all this, you could go see Blondie for $3 at the door. Some of the shitty, rough-around-the-edges clubs were the best.

A girl I once saved from likely rape took me to Studio 54 a few times. Not my scene, though there was a lot of money and celebrities there.

Clubs like the Peppermint Lounge, Privates, Hurrah!, Traxx, Club 57, Irving Place, Save The Robots, Danceteria, Chandelier, Berlin, The World. etc. were more along my line of preference. Limelight was another one of those big $$, big personality clubs. Never even went in once.

Consider Chandelier - lower east side off Ave D, IIRC. A bombed out tenement, probably dangerous structurally, and yet they managed to get power, water, and heat inside. It was a dump, yet they spruced it up with all manner of decoration and artwork. The music was second to none anywhere on the planet. DIdn't last long... maybe a year, probably less. I think the city finally caught on and closed them down.

Those were good days to be young and full of life. I pity the youngin's coming up now. What thin and paltry lives they lead.

Long drive indeed. And few years too early for the other clubs and the the evolution of thrash metal...Omni opened in 85.

You were at the the center of the punk revolution, no need to travel anywhere. ;)

If you were in Cali, you could still catch a few of the more popular bands...at the Mab, or Keystone.
