What are you doing to prepare for an Economic Collapse?

I've dumped the dollar to the extent possible, bought silver and gold, and keep a small store of cash in my safe. I have set up a fairly large garden (raised beds), which produce more than enough food for my family for the year, minus some staples (flour, rice), which I have stockpiled in bulk. I have learned to can vegetables and meat, and do so with whatever I don't eat fresh. I'll be getting chickens and goats this year as well (after I fence off the front yard).

I also have my guns (9mm, .357 mag, 22. pistol, .22 rifle, shotgun, .306, and a black powder revolver), and I am going to be getting my father's reloading accessories, and I plan on getting a lead casting kit soon, along with a bunch of lead shot. I may also pick up my Uncle's machine shop equipment.

I really hope you don't have too much flour. It is nutritionally worthless after about 6 months. (Did a little web research to verify my info, they say 8 month shelf life if you have it properly stored, up to a year if refrigerated.)

Definitely better if you can store it as whole wheat and grind it yourself.

I've been stocking up on canned goods (fruits, vegetables, fish and chicken) and I've recently purchased a Mossberg 500.
Am I the only one preparing for the worse?

Welcome! You're definitely not alone :D

P.S. Liked your "Why Guns Scare Me" video. I used to feel the same way until I went to a range and learned how to safely handle and use a gun-- now I own 3.

Hmm, guess you could still use it for calories (energy) at the very least, and try to make up nutrition through vitamins and others. Thanks for the heads up.

I recently added a crossbow to my arsenal, I figure why waste ammo on stuff that would be easy to kill. Then have to trade or barter for more ammo. The bolts could be re-used...

Yep I have a crossbow, as well as his and her recurve bows.

I have got a semi-auto .22 for varmints and bought cases of ammo years ago when it was cheap, so I am not to worried about running out.

I don't have any big guns (30-30 and .38 are the biggest) but I have friends with guns that were designed to shoot the treads off of tanks :)

It's good to have friends ;)

Nothing, I don't see a full economic collapse. I think things will eventually get worse but not utter chaos.

have a little dehyrdrated & freeze dried food stocked. trying to garden; but damn bugs are eating the corn i planted. tomatoes died cuz i forgot to water, cucumbers are doing good. lettuce died either forgot to water or didnt germinate. have had a couple of blueberry growing in pots for almost 3 years old now and praying ill get to eat some berries this summer :)

I'm not afraid of a collapse. If there is I'm already better than 99% of the population with the gold/silver I have, so no I"m not doing anything at the moment. Instead, I am enjoying life, which is too short to be worrying about something that may very well never come.

I'm just a retial worker, so I don't have much money. but I have a little invested in Series I- US Savings bonds, which are are locked up at my bank. If the Sh*t hits the fan, local coin dealers might close their shops (for their own protection).
and the Treasury could default on some of their T-notes, etc, but savings bonds will likely be the last thing they default on.

Guns, silver, canned vegetables and fruits and fish, camping gear, meal bars, buying a house with 10+ acres of land.

Your gold and silver will do you no good if there is a shortage of food and supplies. It's better to be safe than sorry. Even if you don't foresee an economic collapse, you should still be prepared for a natural or man-made disaster. You have nothing to lose in doing so.

I cant do shit, Im laid off and already broke!

Find a way to network with other like-minded people in your area who can help you. Salvation Army, local food bank, St Vincent de Paul, Churches/Synagogues etc. Ask them if they have a disaster plan in place and offer whatever skills you have in exchange for help.

Have enough food/water to last a few months and enough hard assets to keep me alive for a couple years were the dollar to become worthless overnight.

Above all, I'm confident that I have the emotional fortitude (by fortitude, I mean detachment ;)) to go many years with nearly nothing.

Gold and silver will do a lot of good if there is a shortage of supplies. He will be able to buy it with his immensely powerful currency.

It won't do him any good if there are NO supplies, but in such a situation, there's not much he could do anyways.

I normally have a six month supply on hand, though I have eaten it down to a 2 month supply (we're big on homemade bread). I'm trying to work a deal with one of the local grain elevators where I can get a 55 gallon barrel of wheat berries for cheap, as I have a grain mill at home (hand crank).

Canned goods and various handguns, rifles and shotguns. Reloading dies for each caliber and components galore. I'm set.
