We will never be mainstream

I have been following this campaign rather closely since about August. I have noticed that we continue to plan events and say "This will be the tipping point, they cannot ignore us after this event. This will be the thing that makes us mainstream!"

At first I believed it, for several of the events. For a day of two after Nov 5th, I thought we had finally done it, we were now top-tier. Within a few days RP's name had completely dropped out of the news and we were back to where we started as far as MSM recognition goes. It is going to be the same thing regardless of what this campaign achieves. I think we need to stop deluding ourselves into thinking that there is any possibility that we will be propelled into mainstream media success.

Ron Paul has won the majority of Straw polls. He has won every debate. He had the largest single day fundraiser in GOP history. He has the largest rallies out of all candidates. He had 5,000 in philadelphia. He is going to outraise every candidate in this quarter. His platform reflects popular opinion more then any other candidate. etc etc etc

It doesn't matter. They marginalize us and ignore us. Get it? There is NOTHING we can do to gain mainstream credibility. We can raise 10 million on the 16th. We can outraise hillary clinton for the quarter. We can win New Hampshire and get 3rd in Iowa. They will discredit it and ignore us at every chance they get. There are some powerful people controlling most MSM outlets, and for whatever reason our agenda is the exact opposite of their agenda.

Get it? This campaign can only be successful by targeting voters individually. We cannot count on the MSM for anything, except to smear us and slander us. It is not going to change.

Yes this is very disheartening. Yes this makes me want to punch a wall. But it is reality. Sorry for the ranting, but I just wanted to get this off my chest. Feel free to rate this one star or whatever...

i'm not sure if i agree or not.

guess it depends on how you define "mainstream"

certainly we're not receiving the national publicity on the news networks which we deserve.

but if and when ron paul secures the republican nomination and wins the presidency, i think that will prove that he is certainly mainstream in the public's eye. and when this happens, it will only prove that there is a huge difference between what the news touts as mainstream, and what is REALLY mainstream.

Disheartening? Whenever I encounter the MSM objection from new voters I use Ron Paul's words about the neocons "Why believe them?" then I point out many facts that undermine the creditability of the MSM. Soon, the MSM will be the fringe element.

The more people's actual experience differs from the MSMs perception the less creditability the MSM has. A YouTube of a 5,000 person rally along with a link to the MSM article of the rally does it all. We need Real News.

WHY BELIEVE THEM?

Well it might become "mainstream" after 1st in NH and 1/2 in Iowa

I wouldn't put it past the MSM to find a way to discredit us, even then.

BrandonYates is right - this war will be fought in small battles, winning over individuals though personal interaction and hard work.

They won't ignore Q4 fundraising. They may marginalize it.
Donors for Hillary are in the 60,000 range. Pauls donors are estimated to be 85,000 to 100,000.

Lets see the number in January.

Lets see the voter turnout in January.

Lets pretend that we are only 40,000 strong.

It's all about polling numbers. We're currently around 5 to 6% nationally and 8% in the early states. That's progress, but in order to become noticed you have to break out into the double digits in at least 1 state. Observe what happened to Huckabee. He was out of the mainstream for a long time. Suddenly, all the religious people notice him, and push him into double digits in Iowa polling. THEN, the media picks up on Huck, and he moves into the lead in Iowa and up in other states as well. Media coverage is driven by polling, if you don't poll above 10%, they don't care about you.

I agree, the revolution will not be televised.

I used to agree with this. Not anymore.

We poll above McCain and Thompson, yet the MSM still paints them as legitimate candidates, and Paul as kooky fringe kinda guy

I somewhat agree with the top post. The CNN debate was frustrating because it looked as if CNN might be a little better than the other networks - they did broadcast the Philadelphia rally live. I am coming to the conclusion the media cannot comprehend Paul as a serious candidate, not matter how much money he raises. They'll report *on* these facts, but not give Ron Paul any *respect*.

Hey Brandon, long time no talk.
I just wanted to say that to a point, I agree but I also disagree. The amount of press that Ron Paul - online and off, has increased quite a bit this month and continues to climb. YES, they (the media) TRY to marginalize us and the campaign but it's not working! We ARE getting through to voters and the loudest way we can speak is with our wallets! The more money the campaign has, the more ads they can run and the MSM can't do anything about that. They also can't stop us from going door to door and canvassing or putting slimjims on cars or making phone calls. WE have to overcome the MSM and we are succeeding! So don't lose hope.

The better we do the worse we get in the media, no biggy you just have to readjust what we are used to :)

How about this...
Become a delegate, I say this a hundred times a day. A delegate is literally worth at least 50,000 votes if not more.
If i'm selected a delegate, I will be one of 6 people representing an entire congressional district. My vote will count for many... and yours can too! If you become a delegate! Ask your local meet-up group organizer for more details.

Believe me, I am on it. I do alot of campaigning outside of the internet.

You are right though, this is very very important.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.

Who the hell would want to be mainstream?

The MainStream Media is the old...we are the new.

I got email today from someone who dismissed RP as unelectable a month back.. He sent the CNN post debate poll figures and said he was wrong. I have a convert from Hillary to RP..

Best
Randy
