We must reject materialism or we will sacrifice our future.

I realize that with economic freedom issues many people feel that consumerism and free enterprise go hand-in-hand, but they don't necessarily. To compare the two would be akin to comparing having a glass of beer to being a full-fledged alcoholic. The major problem is that corporations have grown too big (with government influence and power enabling them to do so) and they have altered our US and Western culture into a mass of consumers rather than citizens.

As stated here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H37793fEQ2s we are sacrificing our birth right on the altar of materialism. Many people are even skipping marriage and family in order to satisfy the me-first philosophy promoted by the media. Naturally the government likes this because it measures success on tax revenue and a society of double income or single incomes with no kids is great for its thirst for money -- for the short term.

Maybe if we return to the free enterprise philosophy of American prior to 1913 we can save our culture. Of course if that does not happen then individuals can reject today's materialism and consumerism and strive to raise families that are healthier emotionally.
