Esp on Iran. His position is literally the opposite of what it once was. Somehow they magically went from being no threat whatsoever to posing a threat to our security when the intelligence from our own agencies hasn't changed since 2007. Rand - how is Iran a threat to us, even if they had a nuclear weapon?

He's changed because he wants to have a chance to win the GOP nomination. He's closer to Ron on foreign policy than he lets on, but he just can't publicly say what he thinks as he wouldn't be a credible candidate for President. No one would take him seriously if he said that Iran wasn't a threat, and he would have a 0% chance to win.

This launch would of gone better if the Iran agreement had been made already, but its good to get this over with now since its so early in the primaries. So far he hasn't cracked and he will probably hit critical mass if he survives the blowback of challenging both the parties by saying he's not playing ball (term limits).

How do you know? Have you had a private conversation with the man? Going from no threat AT ALL to OMG the mooslims are coming the mooslims are coming seems like a pretty darn big flip flop to me.

I don't know if its to win or not. I hope so. I personally don't have a problem having strong national defense but killing more brown people isnt the answer to anything.

This wasn't a question. It was an impeachment. She was trying to get him to squirm and get defensive. I think it would be an improvement if he calmly and patiently let her finish. No skin off his back to do that and THEN calmly pointing out that she asked him 4 questions at once on complex issues (Iran, foreign aid to Israel, cutting defense spending, have you mellowed out) and that she was editorializing. This makes her look unreasonable. But he did do a good job re-framing and answering each point, and on the rest of the interview... Too bad no one will see anything other than those 20 seconds.

Agreed. Interrupting is contentious and bad manners (if nothing else). He should let her finish, then he can give his answer. If she interrupts him (like she did with "let's take that off the table"), then he can break in and jump her shit.

They are trying to pigeon hole him in different categories in different audiences; so rand you've seemed to have changed your views on the sun, the moon, and the stars so why do you think reaching out to minorities will help in the general election. You see if he takes the time to answer any one of those questions in more then a sound byte that they can later use against him they switch the subject to Iran or something so the listener is still under the assumption that rand has changed his positions.

You know, it's about time that someone stepped up and refused to allow these talking heads to dictate the terms of controversy from their little pieces of paper. She absolutely editorialized in a way that was designed to avoid actually asking him his view while insinuating that he is unorthadox. Perhaps, one of these days, Paul will consider accepting interviews from platforms where the critical issues of the day may be discussed and questions asked like adults and in an environment where he's free to answer (real questions) thoroughly and uninterrupted.

I like it when Randal calls them out on it.

I believe that will be a huge strength that Rand possesses over his father, and I wish Ron had done more of that. Rand will shut you down the moment you try to twist his argument or answer his questions for him before he has a chance to reply. Ron was always more 'gentlemanly' about his interviews.
