[Video] Rand Paul on The O'Reilly Factor w/ Laura Ingraham 6/27/13

Rand is libertarian, not paleocon when it comes to immigration. I'll catch the repeat, I'm watching the NBA draft right now haha.

That's not true. Back when he was running for Senate in 2010 he was interviewed by Andrew Napolitano on FAUX News and the Judge asked him, why don't you support all these hard working religious family values illegal immigrants, and Rand replies, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. When Rand was running for Senate he was talking about ending birthright citizenship and now he's all in for bringing in 50 million people. He's gotten terrible advice on this. He's not ready for prime time.

He's done as big flip flop as the idiot Marco Rubio

BTW Greg Brannon is much better than Rand on immigration. You should read his platform. It's impressive. No hispandering. Just straight talk.

I do not support amnesty. The United States of America is a nation of laws. Those who come here should respect them. The United States has always welcomed individuals who legally seek to enter our country to work or become citizens, but Congress and the President must make every effort to secure our borders.

Immigrants should meet the current requirements, which should be enforced and updated. As is usually the case, subsidizing something creates more of it, and I feel strongly law abiding America taxpayers should not be forced to pay for welfare, medical care and other expenses for illegal immigrants.

Once the subsidies for illegal immigration are removed, the problem will likely become far less common. We need to reform our immigration system in a way that benefits our communities and reduces the incentive for immigrants to come here illegally.

Millions crossing our border without our knowledge constitutes a clear threat to our nation’s security. I will work to secure our borders immediately.

Who does that sound like?

What in the world are you talking about? He was one of only 28 Senators to vote against the immigration bill.

Those are the exact same words taken from Rand's website, copied and pasted.

Dude, you wanna win or don't ya??? Ron never played the game and look where that got him? Marginalized and ignored beyond belief... Rand is playing the game and will go much farther than Ron ever got. Not saying I'd take Rand over Ron just saying that Rand is playing to win, whereas Ron not so much. Imo though, Ron knew what he was doing the whole time, paving the way for his son. Lets get Rand in there and let him flip flop then in OUR direction...

This is a no brainer. A smart politician could galvanize the American people over this. Millions of Americans are out of work or underemployed yet the elites want to bring in an endless supply of cheap labor. Wages for working class Americans have been stagnant for 30 years, but elites in both parties continue to betray them. You don't bash Hispanics because native born Hispanics have seen their wages stagnate.

Rand has gotten horrible advice on this. Too bad.

Rank and file union members along with blacks.

It would be a good way to make inroads among Black voters. One of the things that killed Romney is blue collar whites stayed at home .

I support Rand but you are right on this. I can accept the idea of not deporting illegals who are not criminals and have made a life here, although I don't think they should be given citizenship. Rand's buying into this idea that we need to import more workers when we have over 7% unemployment is truly disappointing. That bothers me much more than giving illegals legal residency status.

I like Rand too, but I worry about his political instincts. He's Hispandering and it doesn't look good. The only people pushing this are elites in both political parties.

Competition is always a good thing in my opinion and any true capitalist would agree. I'm not opposed to unions but to think one is going to work a trade of some sort and make extravagant wages at it and always presume them to go up is full of themselves. If I'm looking for someone to tile a new bathroom or something similar and I can get as good of a job done with an non-unionized worker for a more reasonable wage, then I should be free to chose that. Same can be said for all contractors making govt buildings and the like. It's reasonable to pay an engineer that is highly skilled or highly educated $30+/hr for design or related purposes, not someone working a bot that puts X piece on a new GM product or someone snaking my drains. Let the free market decide not a corrupted one.

He looks like a hypocrite when he was originally so concerned about the solvency of S.S. and Medicare. Well, bringing in low skilled, uneducated workers and their families en masse isn't going to save the system, aside from lining the pockets of corporate whores who exploit the immigrants during their prime years and then pawn them off to the overburdened system.

Didn't he propose restricting welfare (as in no welfare) for these immigrants?

I believe he proposed an amendment but it was never tabled. I think he needs to voice this more often though. I've only see him discuss it once and it wasn't even mentioned in his Op-Ed.

Dude...have you learned nothing from prohibition? Drug wars, alcohol prohibition, prostitution...etc. You're asking for a prohibition (to some degree) on immigration. That will simply create a black market for them as soon as demand exceeds the supply, which it already has. There is no winning this battle, and you wouldn't want too if you understood economics.

You sound like a Luddite with immigration instead of machines (it's perfectly comparable). Stop focusing on unemployment and focus on production. The more we can produce, the better. Cheaper prices allow people to focus money on more important and productive means. Being able to take an entire industry out of the job market because it's being done cheaply is a good thing. It's been done many times throughout history and society is better, more advanced for it.

Completely incongruous argument. People are not substances. Making an artifical umbrella category of "prohibition" just doesn't get you anywhere.

And he sounds like a true lightweight. Laura asks him, why do you favor bringing in all these people when we have so many Americans hurting. His reply, well I talk to farmers in my state and no one will pick crops for 9 dollars an hour. GIVE HIM THE HOOK!!!. Hey Rand, if the farmers were paying 15-18 dollars an hour people would be fighting to take those jobs.

Earth to Rand. There is no labor shortage. Basic simple economics and he doesn't understand it.

Phony Farm Labor Shortage: We Need to Talk About It

What's also simple economics though is that since the cost of production is made higher due to wages having to be raised, the price of food goes up to cover the added cost. So that's not a net benefit. But the point that everyone misses about immigration is not that we're importing people who are willing to work for cheap wages, that's actually the good part about immigration and why a lot of libertarians favor it from an economic basis. The thing is that by becoming citizens they also get the political right to vote and all the collected data shows that Hispanic immigrants overwhelmingly vote for socialism and big government. So the real harm from Mexican immigration is not the they're taking our jobs argument, it's that they're taking our freedom and prosperity away by voting it away in elections.
