[Video] Rand Paul on Real Time with Bill Maher 11/14/14

So? How was it?

Sounded pretty good to me.

The only time Maher started to do a "can't support you" was over global warming. Rand was good on the issue, and his answers were spot on, but the global warming radicals will never be satisfied.

Rand didn't take the bait and go into the top tier science that refutes the man made theory for "climate change." So he pushed back against climate change policy without setting himself up as the "Republican Science Denier."

I liked his response to that. I think we'd do well to refrain from that model around here too. There is nothing to be had from continuing to engage the issue in that way but grief.

Bill Maher said a few things interesting:

Toward the middle he said, independents are up for grabs and I'm [Bill] is available to the Rand Paul campaign.

Then at the end said he doesn't know who he's going to vote for.

Those specific words will definitely open up Bill's audience to Rand.

I think the issue is worthy of scientific debate.

His answer on climate change was great but he should have quit while he was ahead instead of telling the dirt story. He dodged the prison profiteering question, I'm not sure why.

Saying we have to go to war with ISIS to protect our embassy and consulate is ridiculous. When countries we aren't salivating to invade/re-invade become unstable, we don't leap into their war, we close and evacuate our consulate. Iraq is no different.

Bill maher did an A+ job of promoting Rand. Can't quite say the same for how rand did for himself. But i do credit Rand with reaching out to maher in the first place, which clearly led to this very friendly interview.

That's a rather long presentation, anaconda. I'm going to be honest and say that I'm probably not going to watch it. Could you maybe offer a preview of some of the points made?

Aside from that, I think the "issue" is one of a mercantilism. This is political science. And I was just squabbling with occams banana with regard to the language of the issue and the confusion of terms of controversy that it causes. We can debate the science but we need to not premise the debate upon political science. It won't work and is why I'd mentioned what I did about grief. Global warming has become an industry. We're seeing development of nations underminded in the name of "science" but in the form of "political science". I don't know. It's late. There is much that I'd like to add to this but perhaps tomorrow or something.

If we're going to debate science then fine. The mercantilist aspect of the narrative is a political science debate, though. And that's the real problem that needs to be addressed. Just my opinion.

If memory serves the jist of it is that global warming leads CO2 concentration, not the other way around that the globalists claim. They've got it 100% backwards. Solar flares heat up the earth, and there is a resulting greenhouse effect with more CO2. Ice samples verify this. Al Gore totally ignores this crucial phasing. There's scientists from renowned institutions in the video, and I found it quite entertaining. Try to give it a look sometime if you can.

You kidding me? Ayn-Rand Paul is the scariest dude out there. I mean, geez, the guy's a serial plagiarist and is against the Civil Rights Act. Not even a real board certified doctor! And, his freaking toupee man!
:)

You should have also used the the words teahadist or teabagger.

And keep in mind unregulated corporations will have us all slaving in abject poverty and in dangerous and toxic environments. Starting at age 6.

Rand Paul talks climate change with Bill Maher

(CNN) -- Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican who hails from Kentucky coal country, tried to find some "middle ground" with HBO host Bill Maher on climate change, saying Friday night that he supports deregulating alternative sources of energy.

"We need more energy, and maybe cleaner energy will supplant less clean energy over time--and it already is--but I don't think that shutting down dramatically one form of energy is a good idea for an economy," the first-term senator said on "Real Time."

Bill Maher: I had drinks with Rand Paul

While saying he's not against some regulations, such as on carbon emissions and clean water, Paul said he plans on introducing legislation "in the next month or so" that would cut regulation of alternative fuels.

"I'm for trying to get the government out of the way of converting your trucks from diesel to natural gas, or from gasoline to ethanol," he said. "And try to let the marketplace take care of this, because some of these fuels are actually cheaper, too, and if they're cheaper then people will go for a cheaper alternative that also is cleaner for the environment."

His comments come as Paul, who's planning a presidential run but says he hasn't made a final decision yet, has blasted President Obama and other Democrats for supporting policies that would negatively affect the coal industry in his home state.

He has also gone after the Environmental Protection Agency for what he describes as overbearing regulations.

And Paul blasted Hillary Clinton this fall for arguing that climate change is one of the biggest threats facing the United States.

On the show Friday, Paul continued to argue that the rhetoric in the climate change debate can be exaggerated.

"It gets so far out there, and it does almost get there with a religiosity that I don't think we need to have," he said. "If we're going to say the Statue of Liberty is drowning, that's alarmist."

Maher, a liberal leaning independent who shares some of Paul's libertarian views, sounded encouraged by Paul's talk on alternative energy but challenged the senator on his point about the discussion surrounding climate change.

Joining the Los Angeles-based program remotely from Washington, Paul also answered questions about the recent call to increase the number of troops in Iraq to fight ISIS. "I'm not for sending any troops into Iraq, and will oppose sending any of our troops back into Iraq," he said.

Also on the program, Paul reiterated his position in favor of criminal justice reform for nonviolent drug convictions and vowed: "I will do everything to end war on drugs."

HBO, like CNN, is a division of Time Warner.

Maher's intro for Rand reminded me of this meme.

Does anyone else think that if Rand could actually get the support of someone like Bill Maher, it would make him a lot less likely to win over conservative Republicans and win the GOP primary? I'm not exactly sure how you win over rank and file conservative Republican voters and someone like Bill Maher at the same time. That's quite a tightrope to walk.
