Bill Maher called for banning guns and stated that paying taxes is patriotic in within an 8 minute span. If that isn't Nazi-like rhetoric, I don't know what is.

Not to mention supporting the idea that a piece of land belongs to an ethnic group. Talk about racist.

Heh. I didn't see the show, but I turned to NBC to watch what comes on after Leno, and happened to see the last 3 or 4 minutes. Maher was still sitting on the couch next to the next guest, and I thought he looked absolutely miserable . This explains it.

The last couple of times I've seen him on Leno he hasn't done well with the audience at all, he'll even start complaining to the audience that they aren't laughing at his jokes. I guess he is too smug for even a lot of the California liberals.

Maher lost a lot of credibility there. Not only did most of his comments contradict his clamed libertarianism, but his overall behavior contradicted his overall message. He was blaming the behavior & speech of the right for causing the shooting, but according to his own reasoning HIS behavior could just as easily cause some loony-tune to go shoot up some NRA officials. Besides calling the NRA “assassins”, he was directing a lot of profanity and real hatred and not even pretending to be funny. I mean after watching Bill go off like that, what’s an unstable and impressionable viewer to do?

Anyone see this last night? It's pretty hilarious. Maher was getting scant applause most of the interview ranting against guns and the 2nd amendment, then at about the 5:30 mark the audience turns against him, so he insults them by asking if they read. LOL!

He finally got some decent applause at the end when he said end the wars.

the bullshit argument about banning 30 round mags is a joke. Loughner could've easily just gotten two guns with 15 round mags if 30 round mags were illegal.

Wow, Maher comes right out and says what I had been thinking. I had been somewhat surprised by the reaction of the Left to this, and on my FB page, I've been posting various quotes (Obama's I'll bring a gun quote, Kanjorski's suggestion to kill the guy running for gov. in FL) from the Left to point out that there is little difference to the rhetoric on either side. (On the plus side no liberal has yet defended Kanjorski.)

I found it interesting how they defended Obama's quote - that it's metaphorical or it's a movie quote or whatever. Which makes me think, um, Sarah Palin's map wasn't a metaphor? "Don't retreat. Reload!" isn't a metaphor?

This type of double standard can only work with the following caveat - you have to assume a vast difference in intelligence in the intended audiences. I think this really gets to the elitism of the Left. Look, Both Obama and Palin are using metaphor, imagery, whatever you want to call it. But they are very obviously NOT saying that we should LITERALLY use a gun. The Left thinks so poorly of the Right that they actually think that right-wingers would view Palin's statements as being LITERAL. That right-wingers are just too stupid to understand metaphor or nuance. And Bill Maher actually says this in the video! Not in those exact words, but that was basically what he was getting at.
