With no compensation to the owners.

Was hoping they would have got slowed down, but it looks like all the hooting and hollering and protesting was utterly ignored.

Well, what are you gonna do Virginians?

VA Democrats Pass Bill Requiring Destruction of ‘High Cap’ Magazines

Democrats on the Virginia House Public Safety Committee passed legislation Friday morning to require owners of “high capacity” ammunition to destroy or surrender said magazines.

The legislation in view is HB 961, which was watered down from its original form in order to garner enough Democrat votes to pass out of committee.

Breitbart News reported HB 961 originally required owners of AR-15s to register their guns with the government and get a license from Virginia State Police, in order to retain the firearm. That aspect of the bill was removed, but the ban on magazines holding over 12 rounds is still intact.

Todd Gilbert, the Republican Leader of the Virginia House of Delegates, noted HB 961 was the bill that spawned the wave of Second Amendment Sanctuary declarations in the state to begin with. He noted that leaving language in the bill that requires surrender or destruction of lawfully purchased property, under threat of a felony. is only going to continue fueling citizens to stand in opposition to their government:

"House Democrats seem to have learned nothing from the public outcry caused by their proposals. A similar Senate version of House Bill 961 is exactly what prompted the 'Second Amendment sanctuary cities' movement across Virginia." - @cToddGilbert

The NRA’s Catherine Mortensen commented on committee passage of HB 961, saying: “This egregious gun ban is designed to make millions of law-abiding Virginians felons overnight. Lawmakers have delayed bringing up this gun ban because voters from across the Commonwealth oppose it.”

She referenced Mike Bloomberg’s planned visit to Virginia, intimating the bill was passed as a way of paying homage to him: “With their billionaire benefactor coming to Richmond next week to headline a Democratic Party fundraiser, however, it is clear that House leaders would rather bow to out-of-state interests than listen to their constituents and fellow lawmakers.”

They did not listen to the crowd that Warned them.
Same in Wa and Ky,, they immediately ignored the grievances.

Non-Compliance and Confrontation..are the next phase.

Does it take effect immediately?

A lot of Virginia sheriffs are about to have to prove their mettle if they were serious about 2A sanctuaries. (and 2A supporters had better have their backs)

That would be nice to see, but I'm not holding my breath. They already have no problem violating the constitution on other issues. This will come down to the people.

Nothing is going to stop this bullrush but blood in the streets. That's my opinion.

First they have to find people willing to enforce it. The day of the protest, the cowardly governor fled to North Carolina.

Governor ain't stacking up on anyone's front door.

That's how they operate though. No surprise there, that doesn't mean he's given up. People like that just turn the screws from whatever location they're in. And you better believe those screws are tightening on LE.

VA Democrats Pass Ban on Suppressors, ‘High Cap’ Mags, ‘Assault Weapons’

AWR HAWKINS 11 Feb 2020

Democrats in Virginia’s House of Delegates passed legislation Tuesday to ban suppressors, “high capacity” magazines, and “assault weapons.”

The bill, HB 961, now moves to the Virginia Senate.

HB 961 originally banned certain commonly owned firearms and suppressors without exception, The NRA-ILA reports that the bill amended to secure passage. The result is that a grandfather clause was added to allow Virginians to keep their AR-15s, AK-47s, and similar rifles if they already own them.

The same will apply to suppressors. However, the NRA-ILA notes that “confiscation is undoubtedly still the end goal.”

There is no grandfather clause for magazines, which means Virginians owning magazines holding 12 rounds or more will have to destroy or surrender those magazines, should HB 961 pass the Senate and be signed into law.

The NRA released a statement on the House passage of HB 961:

HB961 will turn law-abiding Virginians into criminals overnight. Under this bill, anyone who owns a standard capacity magazine must submit to mandatory confiscation or face one year in jail for each magazine they own. No law-abiding Virginian will be able to buy an AR-15 – America’s most popular all-purpose sporting rifle. After receiving money from Michael Bloomberg, House leaders have their hands out for more and clearly have no regard for the will of their constituents.

Does it take effect immediately?

Supporters need to Stand their ground,,and the Sheriff needs to back them.. I have my doubts,,(perhaps a rare one)

I expect Confrontation.. and would be seriously disappointed to see confiscation without confrontation.

HB961 has just been passed by for the YEAR so it is off of the table for the current session and sent to the crime commission to be studied.
Not exactly what we wanted, but at least it won't be going through this session.

I would be completely ok with this law, if an amendment were added that Democrats on the Virginia House Public Safety Committee were required to go collect these high capacity magazines from civilians themselves, unarmed.
