If the story is false, it seems strange that NE would run the story given the $115 million Gawker settlement last week.

That is my take on it. If it's true that the Rubio people were shopping it before Rubio dropped out, then the timing works. It would indicate that the magazine did some due diligence before going to print.

According to the reporters, they had it way before Cruz and Trump ever got into it, and looking at the story then, it may have been from the rubio camp originally. Also, sometimes magazines hold things until the story is worth more. With Cruz attacking Trump - it was a gold mine with that timing.

fyi - the posters are failing to follow the money. If Cruz and Trump are already going at it, and the story already exists, as a washington times reporter and brietbart reporter said, what is behind it is the buck.

Amanda Carpenter has denied the accusation on CNN today.

In 2013 she moved to become communications director for future presidential candidate Ted Cruz. She writes on her LinkedIn page about the job: "Oversaw a six-member communications team for one of the most active offices on Capitol Hill. Joined the Cruz Senate office as Speechwriter and Senior Communications Advisor and was promoted to Communications Director in October 2014. Worked closely with legislative and committee staff on the full spectrum of issues before the U.S. Senate. Regularly contributed to social media and other creative content. Was key in creating Sen. Cruz's #MakeDCListen effort..." She left the job in July 2015.

Hillary is particularly concerned about intimate emails to longtime aide Huma Abedin – who married U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner in a ceremony that many ridiculed as a political arrangement. Anthony later resigned over extramarital sexting scandals, after porn star Sydney Leathers said that she believed he was in an open marriage.

“I think a lot of the time when we were speaking, Huma was probably with Hillary,” she charged, at the time.

One exchange between the women had Hillary mistakenly responding to political correspondence with an email that seemed to be about decorating.

Added the insider: “That makes you wonder if any sensitive information was sent to her romantic partners!”

The scandal unraveled in March, when Hillary revealed she deleted over 30,000 emails, insisting the messages were just “things you typically find in inboxes.”

I have no idea whether or not the cover story about Ted Cruz in this week’s issue of the National Enquirer is true or not, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it, did not know about it, and have not, as yet, read it.
Likewise, I have nothing to do with the National Enquirer and unlike Lyin’ Ted Cruz I do not surround myself with political hacks and henchman and then pretend total innocence. Ted Cruz’s problem with the National Enquirer is his and his alone, and while they were right about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards, and many others, I certainly hope they are not right about Lyin’ Ted Cruz.
I look forward to spending the week in Wisconsin, winning the Republican nomination and ultimately the Presidency in order to Make America Great Again.

Trump statement:

Trump denied that he was behind the story, saying he "had absolutely nothing to do with it, did not know about it, and have not, as yet, read it."

"Ted Cruz’s problem with the National Enquirer is his and his alone, and while they were right about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards, and many others, I certainly hope they are not right about Lyin’ Ted Cruz," Trump said in a statement.
