Unemployement hits a 4 year high

There's only one possible solution: Keep firing the people calculating the jobs numbers until they say the right thing

"Job growth has stalled due to Trump’s tariffs and immigration policies."

LOL. Supply and demand now works in reverse. Reduce the labor supply, and unemployment goes up! It's magic!

Next up in Clown World News, "a shortage of eggs has resulted in dropping prices for eggs".

We have a case study now with the Springfield Ohio Haitians. Long closed factories were opened thanks to the influx of people who weren't on drugs and were willing to work. That caused a net positive increase of economic activity and a per capita decrease of crime. And why do you think Trump is now reversing course and wanting to give amnesty for illegal immigrants working in the hotel, manufacturing and agricultural industries and to bring in 600K Chinese students? Trump is running away from his own policies.

That's all good, but workers were imported, so the number of unemployed people did not decrease. Increased economic activity might increase other employment, but that is not a guarantee. Will Haitians eat from a Mexican Food truck parked outside, or do they prefer their own home cooked food? Is the Mexican food truck also imported workers?

Of course he is.

Have you considered that, in addition to supplying labor, immigrants also demand things like housing, food, entertainment, etc.?

How long have you been on this forum?

One of my major complaints with massive immigration is the stress and demand that it puts on the housing market, traffic, food, etc.

Human pyramid schemes cause many problems, and fail in many ways. TPTB have depended for decades on ever cheaper and expanded labor. And when the "labor pool" becomes too much of a problem, all you need is war to clean up, grab all the assets, and start the human boom-bust cycle all over again.

Then why are you surprised that deporting your customers does not cause you to hire more employees?

I'm assuming they'll want their own home cooked food although @PAF pointed out that Trinadad seems to be overrun with KFC and Wendy's. So let's go with the Haitain food trucks. That means buying a food truck (which isn't made in Haiti), and buying food for the food truck. No Haitians aren't running around eating people's pets or roadkill so that means buying food from a *gasp* American farmer! More economic activity. Buying and remoddling dilapidated housing is more economic activity. Even assuming the labor was all being done by the Haitians themelves (or Mexicans), they still have to buy the materials which is more activity from U.S. building material manufacturers and retail or wholesale outlets.

Touche'.

Holy pivot Batman! You can just skip over an argument about unemployment by changing the subject to the housing market and traffic. This is what @TheCount was responding to: "LOL. Supply and demand now works in reverse. Reduce the labor supply, and unemployment goes up! It's magic!"

If "reducing the labor supply" happens in a way that there is a net decrease in economic activity, then it's not "magic" if unemployment goes up. The major cities near me are Birmingham Alabama, Motgomery Alabama, Huntsville Albama and Nashville Tennessee. Nashville and Huntsville are having a net population increase. Bimringham and Montgmery are having a net population decrease. Guess which cities have the biggest 'stress and demand" on the housing markets and traffic? Guess which cities have the lowest unemployment?

The reason is because of AI and high interest rates.

It would be even worse if the democrats got elected.

The tax rates would have gotten jacked up and all the money would have been sucked out of the economy.

Turns out that demand for housing creates jobs.

Jobs in construction that apparently Americans won't do. More imported labor.

So expansion of the labor pool via immigration results in economic expansion which utilizes more imported labor.

When does any of this activity actually result in these poor unemployed Americans you are so concerned about getting jobs?

I take it you've never actually worked in construction? I have within the past 5 years done contracting. I've hired white, black, latino, whatever. The idea that ALL of the construction jobs are or were going to "imported labor" is a myth.

So it's better to have dilapidated empty houses just sitting there as an eyesore and being occuppied by methheads and rats than it is for some "imported labor" to do some of the work?

Riddle me this Batman. Why is unemployement going UP? I mean based on your theories it should be going DOWN right now. Maybe, just maybe, your economic theories are BS? Just saying.

Inflation continues to be reported around 3 .Unemployment needs to creep towards 5 if anyone ever wants fed to cut a full point off interest rates. Id guess vast majority of actual producers want lower interest . Our first 1/4 point cut in a long time is incoming. Plase remember you live in a vast welfare state . Employment to population ratio in US a dismal 59.8 percent. Id say be pleased GDP is beating yr 2000 to 2024 dismal avg of 1.9 by a percent and be pleased interest isnt going up. We are in te better times rite now. Worse times will arrive in future , It is inevitable w/ monetary policy being used past 3 decaes.

Certainly since most immigration is low value labor its better for the country to invest in its own people and building AI infrastructure that creates high value labor at low costs.

With immigrants you have to pay for things like Healthcare and retirement and sick days and coffee and AI doesn't need any of that.

Have you seen the thread where Americans are finding out about jobs and applying for them, and the employers are going ballistic because they were trying to hold out for cheaper H1B labor?
