Top US General Says American Troops Should Be Ready To Die For Israel

Bit surprising that his news from earlier this year was not in headlines of liberal MSNBC or conservative Foxnews:

U.S. appeals court revives a $1 billion lawsuit by Palestinians seeking to hold billionaire Sheldon Adelson and more than 30 other pro-Israel defendants liable for alleged war crimes and support of Israeli settlements

(Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court has revived a $1 billion lawsuit by Palestinians seeking to hold billionaire Sheldon Adelson and more than 30 other pro-Israel defendants liable for alleged war crimes and support of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

In a 3-0 decision on Tuesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said a federal district judge wrongly concluded in August 2017 that all of the plaintiffs’ claims raised political questions that could not be decided in American courts.
The plaintiffs, including 18 Palestinians and Palestinian-Americans as well as a Palestinian village council, alleged a conspiracy among many defendants to expel non-Jews from the disputed territories, and accused the defendants of committing or aiding in genocide and other war crimes.
Other defendants included the billionaire Larry Ellison, Bank Leumi BM and Bank Hapoalim BM, construction and support companies such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co and Volvo AB, 13 nonprofits, and the United States.
The lawyer for the plaintiffs did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A lawyer for the individual, nonprofit and corporate defendants, as well as the U.S. Department of Justice, did not immediately respond to similar requests.
In dismissing the case, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington had said it was “inappropriate” for her to resolve the issue of the settlements, because it was “close to the heart of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict and central to the United States’ foreign policy decision-making in the region.”
But in Tuesday’s decision, without ruling on the merits, Circuit Judge Karen LeCraft Henderson said the only political question concerned who had sovereignty over the Israeli-occupied territories.

Israel security forces may be guilty of war crimes over killings of Palestinians in Gaza, UN says

Some 189 were killed and more than 6,100 wounded during clashes in 2018

Israeli security forces may have committed war crimes in their crackdown on Palestinian protests last year that left nearly 200 dead, the United Nations has said.

“The Israeli security forces killed and maimed Palestinian demonstrators who did not pose an imminent threat of death or serious injury to others when they were shot, nor were they directly participating in hostilities,” an inquiry by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) found.

Some 189 Palestinians were killed and more than 6,100 wounded during clashes in Gaza in 2018.
Protesters used the demonstrations to call for the easing of an Israeli blockade of the territory and recognition of the right of Palestinian refugees there to return to homes in Israel.

When Dr Miriam Adelson was awarded the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s top civilian honor,by Donald Trump in November, the public response ranged from disdainful to “who?” Her husband, the casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson, is widely known for his record donations to Republican causes, as well as passionate support for conservative Israeli interests. Many news articles about the award described Miriam solely as his wife.
But Miriam’s influence has been deeper than many credit, although she appears to have been perfectly comfortable remaining in her 85-year-old husband’s shadow until recently.

One of the few outward hints of Miriam’s powerful role comes with the couple’s his-and-hers political contributions – made to the same candidates and causes, in identical amounts. When the couple gave $30m to the Congressional Leadership Fund, dedicated to electing Republicans to the US House of Representatives, last May, it was $15m from him and $15m from her.

Miriam turns out to be far wealthier than her husband, who was ranked #21 on the Forbes 2018 billionaire ranking. She appears nowhere on the Forbes list, but according to the corporate filings of the Las Vegas Sands Corp casino company, which accounts for the bulk of the couple’s wealth, she directly controls a 41.6% stake, compared to her husband’s 10%.
Worth $17.4bn at the current stock price, her holdings make Miriam wealthier than a number of the world’s richest men, including Rupert Murdoch and Charles Schwab.

US angers Palestinians with reversal on Israeli settlements

WASHINGTON -- The Trump administration on Monday said it no longer considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank to be a violation of international law, reversing four decades of American policy and further undermining the Palestinians’ effort to gain statehood.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the U.S. is repudiating the 1978 State Department legal opinion that held that civilian settlements in the occupied territories are “inconsistent with international law.” Israeli leaders welcomed the decision while Palestinians and other nations warned that it undercut any chance of a broader peace deal.

The order expands U.S. Mideast command to include Israel.

President Trump has ordered that the major U.S. military command for the Middle East be expanded to include Israel, in a last-minute reorganization of the American defense structure that pro-Israel groups have long advocated to encourage cooperation against Iran, U.S. officials said Thursday.

The move means that the U.S. Central Command would oversee American military policy involving both Israel and Arab nations, a departure from decades of U.S. military command structure put in place because of acrimony between Israel and some of the Pentagon’s Arab allies.

An Israeli supporter of US President Donald Trump was among those who participated in the breach of the US Capitol last week.
Pinchas Gerby told Channel 12 on Sunday that he was inside the Capitol building for some 30 minutes and insisted there was no violence. Gerby claimed he was shoved into the building by the huge crowds behind him who broke through the police barricade, and shrugged off suggestions that US authorities could be on his tail.

It is a stroke of the pen for the B-H Administration to restore Israel and Palestine to EUROCOM. This will not last the first one hundred days.

The Zero Administration considered the move and declined. Given that B-H is getting the same band back together, I can't imagine there will be support to keep CENTCOM in control.

Even before the most recent conflict, the U.S. military reportedly toyed with the idea of putting Gaza and the West Bank under Centcom. In 2010, the head of the command, Army Gen. David Petraeus, asked the White House to approve such a move so the U.S. military could "be perceived by Arab leaders as engaged in the region's most troublesome conflict," according to an article by Mark Perry of Foreign Policy.

This General should be thrown out of the army & he should be deported to israel.

Thats the main difference between a Ruler and a Leader. A Leader would die with his troops for what he believes in. A Ruler expects his subjects to die for ANY reason he decrees, but will NEVER put himself in harms way to defend another.

Population reduction by Warfare.

Close to 70% of Dems funding came from Jewish lobbies apparently, might not be so easy for Dems to reverse Trump's moves. Unless Progressive wing/Squad gains bigly in power.

Why?
He seemed to be stating the likely outcome; policy decisions are made by commander-in-chief aka America-First MAGA POTUS Trump.

Both Trump and Biden played sports before they received expemtions from draft. Buth supported Iraq war at different times, though Trump tends to focus more on "take the oil".
Biden's son served in military, Trump's sons served domestically through growing businesses.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden has expressed “strong support” for Israel’s strikes in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas missile attacks on its territory, but raised concerns about civilian casualties and the protection of journalists on a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The White House said Biden on Saturday also shared his “grave concern” about intercommunal violence within Israel and escalating tensions in the West Bank. Biden and Netanyahu discussed Jerusalem, with Biden saying it should “be a place of peaceful coexistence for people of all faiths and backgrounds.”

I don't want US troops to die for Israel. They should be fighting their own battles instead of having the US do it for them.

Top U.S. general warns of broader destabilization risk from Israel-Palestinian hostilities

by Reuters

(Adds remarks by Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, background)
By Phil Stewart
BRUSSELS, May 17 (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer, Army General Mark Milley, warned on Monday of the risk of broader destabilization beyond Gaza without a de-escalation in the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants.
After more than a week of fighting, Milley noted Israel's actions were in self-defense but also cautioned that the levels of violence were such that "it's in no one's interest to continue fighting."
"My assessment is that you risk broader destabilization and you risk a whole series of negative consequences if the fighting continues," Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters shortly before landing in Brussels for talks with NATO allies.

"So in my view, I think de-escalation is a smart course of action at this point for all parties concerned."

Israel pummeled Gaza with air strikes on Monday and Palestinian militants launched rockets at Israeli cities despite a flurry of U.S. and regional diplomacy that has so far failed to halt the fighting.

House Democrats to ask Biden to halt U.S. arms sale to Israel pending review

Democrats held an emergency meeting on the proposed sale, Haaretz learned, after the Washington Post reported the sale of weapons including Joint Direct Attack Munitions ("JDAM") kits that transform bombs into precision-guided missiles and Guided Bomb Unit-39s (GBU-39), a weapon developed for penetrating fortified facilities located deep underground. The U.S. Defense Department previously sold Israel 14,500 JDAMs in a $1.8 billion arms sale in 2015.

The State Department, required by law to provide a 15-day advance notification of any arms sale, originally provided official notice of the proposed sale on May 5 ahead of the recent round of violence. (Ben Samuels)
