Both faiths believe in much the same things, and both faiths have "fundamentalist" sects who are perverting those things for their own ends. I agree with you that the perception is that they are diametrically opposed, especially among those fundamentalists, but I really don't think that this is actually true.

Once again, education is needed. And resistance to that education is high.

Christianity is totally based on Jesus being the Son of God, the Messiah who bore the burden and paid the price for our sins, bringing mankind back into communion with God. Islam believes no such thing about Jesus. So I would classify that as being diametrically opposed.

Out of historical ignorance, I'm not sure I can agree with the idea America is an enemy of Islam. (Though the more visible spokespersons for the other side seem to see America as enemy to Islam) However, I take montages like this, that include abbreviated sound bites, with a grain of salt. Imagine the field day people could have (and probably have had) with Ron Paul doing exactly the same thing.

Well, I wouldn't. I'd classify Athiesm as diametrically opposed, with Buddhism close behind and Hindu/ancient Greek worship of multiple gods not so far behind that. With Allah and Yahweh being one and the same, I'd say Christianity and Islam are no farther from each other than from their common parent Judaism--whether they care to claim their relations or not!

Yes it is. But unfortunately, it is socially acceptable to hate a Muslim 6k miles away. It is encouraged. Not dissimilar to how it was OK to hate blacks for decades. I hardly know any Muslims, but it makes me sick that this kind of racism is so accepted.

My dad's mother was from Greece/Turkey so I've grown up around a lot of Muslims and I can safely say they are the nicest people I've ever met and unlike most "Christians" I know they actually live their life as the Koran says. I pray that this madman will see just what kind of damage these remarks do to the Christian community. Jesus Christ would never condone "destroying" somone because of their beliefs.

The funniest thing is that these "Christian Jihadists" don't seem to realize they're doing exactly the same thing as the radical Islamists when they talk of wiping out an entire religion from the face of the Earth, yet they'll call Islam a "religion of hate" because 5-10% of its adherents claim to want the same thing.

Exactly. The same drive that fuels them is what fueled the Brits two centuries ago. There is a philosophic belief that the Arabs are sub-human and thus need to be "civilized" which is code for be used for our gain. I suggest you read the book "Heart of Darkness." So...as a lifelong Christian who has roomed with a Muslim the last two years and has discussed the differences in our religion thoroughly, I probably have more experience on this issue than do most here. Muslims view Christianity as Christianity views Judaism, pretty much. That we just haven't received the full message yet. I believe Islam is a lot closer to Judaism than either of those is to Christianity. Both of those religions are founded in the law and you are judged by your works.

I disagree that the most ardent supporters of a religion are not exemplary of the religion. I don't consider apathy to be a virtue. It's just these types of people aren't good examples of Christians. I mean, Christians are supposed to be like Christ; would anyone's interpretation of Christ act like this?
