This is how "real" all this is for me, personally.

I commented earlier, but will again...

I did not re-enlist in the CG in order to do my part to help the folks like AF-I've been on the side that enforces these ridiculous laws.

I too, have turned down several .gov contract jobs in the year I've been out, all over 120k/year...

...Instead I went and washed dishes at Applebees for 8$/hr. People were shocked to find out I was a veteran and working there. While my reasoning behind my choice sailed over most their heads(20 something wait staff/cooks), I am sure I planted a few seeds in my short time there(I have little tolerance for bullshit, and when "managers" talk to me like I'm "below" them..well, lets just say that manager was crying when I finally had enough of her shit and left.

Mrs. AF sent me a C-Span link of RP from the Manchester Town Hall event, yesterday I believe it was.

In this clip, I'm not sure where, since I can't watch videos where I am, Ron is asked about the Jones Act, and he says he would repeal it.

Now, for those who don't know, the Jones Act is a series of cabotage laws, the upshot of which is that, if you want to ship goods by sea in US waters or from one US port directly to another, you must use US flagged vessels, built in the US, with US crews.

Also, for those who don't already know this, I am a mariner, I've been making my living at sea for over 30 years.

Repeal of the Jones Act would more than likely result in the end of my job and career.

Also, for those who don't already know this, I am an unabashed pro tariff and anti "free trade" man, not just for my own personal reasons, but for the scores of people just like me, who have already lost any chance of working a decent middle class job for a decent middle class wage.

I disagree with Ron's position on this quite strongly.

But, that has not affected my support, will not affect my support, I am as committed to this as ever.

"Why?" some would ask. Indeed, why would you "vote against your best interests, Cappy?"

For one simple reason: freedom is more important than a paycheck.

A job will be a pretty useless commitment, when we are all cooling our heels in Gitmo, or some federal prison camp.

I've been accused from time to time of displaying "internet bravado", and yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I will get loud and bombastic when something really agitates me.

I take those remarks seriously though, because nothing could be further from the truth, this is as real as it comes, this is my job, family, future...this is putting it all on the line, for this, and a number of other reasons.

The "safe" move would be to support any of the machine candidates, or, even safer, not give a shit about any of it and go drink beer and watch football.

I'm not here to play it safe.

Freedom ain't always safe.

You don't look like you need the rep :P but +rep to you anyways, my friend.

Well said sir! I am a Democrat that has switched to Republican to vote for Dr. Paul. I disagree on a lot of things Dr. Paul says but I love our country and I love my freedom. There is no one running for President on either side of the aisle other than Dr. Paul that has the country's best interests in mind.

Im in awe. You are the man.

For those of us who dont know, how would repealing the Act harm people in situations similar to yours and what is the reasoning behind repealing it? I find the Ron Paul has logical reasons for his positions.
This and also +rep

I too will most likely lose my job with a Ron Paul presidency. I am ok with that though and actually diverge from the OP in that I believe the agency I work for actually should go away. It is redundant and having worked for it gives me an insiders perspective on how we really are the root of the problem when it comes to wasteful government spending.

Right you are.

For me it's like asking if you would like to have a job in USSR where there was little unemployment and lose your freedom.

I can tell you that our forefathers would have rather starved to death than bend the knee.

Think about how awful starving to death would be and then all of our life "problems" just seem trivial.

Just think of how much they sacrificed for us.

I would rather take my chances with a free society than a police state.

When not if this happens to me, I'm seasteading.

God I wish this was an option.

But any vessel large enough to support any size of seastead community would be subject to so many laws, rules and regulations that it would make you wish for life back on shore.

The sea is a NWO prison, pretty much what the land is going to be in 20 years or so.

I was thinking more of a Kevin Costner's waterworld sort of thing. Just a few close friends and family on a 60 ft + sailing vessel, occasionally making landfall to trade. Buy mangoes in the phillipines, transport them to Korea, Pickup something else, etc.
