They are about to turn on the super-particle collider, CERN - quest for the god atom?

CERN, Switzerland, August 7, 2008 – The LHC team has rescheduled the launch of the most ambitious and unprecedented science experiment ever devised. The first attempts of smashing protons in the world's largest particle accelerator will take place on October 21, 2008. The energy of protons is expected to reach values that existed during the Big Bang.

Is it actually delayed or is the Wire Service of Canada a bogus source?

don't know. got my info off of the bbc.
the lab is in europe. i think on the french/swiss border.
don't hear much about it here in the states.

The collider isn't expected to reach its full power of 14 TeV until 2009 or 2010. As I noted earlier this week, that could leave a window for Fermilab's Tevatron in Illinois to steal some of the LHC's thunder - perhaps by making the first detection of the Higgs boson, the last fundamental particle predicted by current theory that has not yet been found. The Higgs boson (a.k.a. "the God Particle") is thought to play a key role in determining the properties of particle mass.

If we can disassemble atoms, perhaps we can learn to put them together? as in, take hyrdrogen, break it down into its 'god atoms/stem cells' and reassemble oxygen atoms?

Oh my! You were running for something weren't you? I hope you have a firmer grasp of politics than you do science.

um, we don't know what lies at the very root of matter.
if its a god atom, then we may be able to restructure it.
how could i have knowledge of the CERN results before they run the test? I am only supposing.
BY your statement, you make it sound like common knowledge what really makes up matter. if that was the case, there would be no need for CERN.

Great, CERN's first beam is on Sept 10, same day as Dr. Paul's news conference with Barr, Baldwin, and perhaps McKinney & Nader.

Hmmmmmm K... Countdown clock?

Someone cld make a mint out of this... lol..

Some news service better cover it live.. there could be CERN parties... haha..

well a few hours to go guys it's been fun and see you on the other side.No news channel is covering this...weird:rolleyes:

Glenn Beck actually rattled on about it a little on his radio show today...Just alot of joking around about how the scientists are "pretty sure" that no black holes will be produced and destroy the entire earth...

Either way fellas, I'd prefer to go out in a messed up experiment than a nuclear bomb resulting from insane foreign policy.

Just like Y2K, ain't nothin' gonna change. People will still suck, and the the status quo will just continue to degrade.

Hooray.
