The worst part is: the phone polls were right

I think Iowa is a typical state that would fall in line w/ phone polling results. I wouldnt hold my breath over Iowa. Stick to it, at least he beat out Giuliani, who my parents were convinced would win (LOL), so I am happy about that on a personal level. Keep the faith people. Do it for RON.

You were and people like me, faithful to ron paul (but realistic and not spun up in conspiracy theories) tried to tell the forum this so they might have a more sound approach to this election... but nah, we got called morons, sheep and hurled abuse at.

The most recent polls showed Ron Paul at 10 percent and it looks like that is where he is landing. The very fact that the polls were right means that unless Ron Paul has some miracle Huckabee-like surge, he's not going to win this.

How many times did we criticize the media for their reliance on phone polling? Turns put they were right. This sucks big time.

Shut up already with your negativity.. its like a disease.. you didnt think this would be easy did you? Are you really that weak that you will give up after the FIRST battle? Quit your bellyaching, its freaking disgusting, and the people who are working hard in Iowa and New Hampshire do NOT need to hear it.

NO.

The phone polls were manipulative and created false results.

This in turn was fed to the public over and over.

The public instinctively avoided the candidates who polled low.

So, you see, The polls did not reflect the public.

The poll results influenced the public, which resulted in what you see...what "they" wanted....what they created.

Fuck You Frank!!!!

I'm sorry, but that doesn't change the facts. Ron Paul got 5th place. Disappointing is too weak of a word. This is devasting to me.

The polls were all wrong, every single poll underestimated his support.

You guys who are critisizing us who critisize polls are just picking and choosing your polls.

Zogby had us at exactly 10% while ARG had us at 7% and Strategic Vision had us at 6%.

Some LA poll had us at 3%.

Except for Zogby, the polls were consistently off, just perhaps not by enough. And Des moines was low too.

The most dissapointing aspect of this caucus to me, was the lack of young people getting out and supporting R.P. when it counted. If they would have responded, the Doctor would have clinched third place.

Unfortunately, for many, liberty just isn't that important. Shameful.

My apologies to the young who do give a damn, but the facts is the facts.

I'm sticking with him- there is NO other alternative. Fairweather friend of liberty and peace? Not me. I'm in it til the end! Go Dr. Paul!!!!

Amen to that! Unfortunately, for many this is their first taste of politics and they have a short term view of things. Regardless of what happens this election , the Paul campaign has been a net POSITIVE for FREEDOM. So support it all the way, as far as it goes, make this positive impact as large as possible.

I have been getting really irritated with Paul supporters always claiming the scientific polls were rigged, and so on. This is the wake up call that Paul supporters needed. Scientific polls are called scientific for a reason. I'm afraid all the dismissing of the polls has made a lot of Paul supporters lazy. If the scientific polls are wrong and the unscientific straw polls and internet polls are right, then what's the point of campaigning? Now we can move on from a more rational standpoint. There is a lot more work to do.

Thank you. Well said. I don't know how many times I've tried to reason with people here, trying to convince them that the polls aren't "rigged" or "biased". I admitted that they are imperfect, but cautioned people not to get complacent in thinking that Paul's support was substantially greater than the polls indicated. I took a lot of flak and ridicule for that stance, and sadly it's looking more and more like those scientific polls are turning out to be pretty reliable after all.

Instead of arguing over unfairness, we need to stick together and work hard to spread Ron's message. That's the only way we can win this thing.

It's just the way I feel. Sorry if you don't like it. I've sent the campaign 1000 dollars. And I'm not rich. That's two weeks' pay for me. You have to understand the financial and emotional investment that so many of us have put into this. How can you possibly expect us to be happy right now?

I can look back at all the letters that I've written promoting Dr. Paul. I was so sure that Ron Paul would surprise everyone. I had to face so many skeptics and doubters. I can't belive that they were right and I was wrong. This is a huge blow to my whole way of thinking. How can I possibly continue on with optimism when I just found out my optimistic thinking has failed me?

Goddamn! Looks like some of you need some MIDOL. There are still 49 more of these to go, and it is pointless to be upset about the turnout from one state that most of us didn't give a shit about until a couple weeks ago.

And what the hell are you crying about anyway? All things considered, 5th place is not that bad. First of all, Romney just got his ass handed to him. That isn't even the best part. Romney just got his ass handed to him by an amateur that probably pissed off every writer in Hollywood by crossing the picket line to go on Leno's show last night. If the writers strike ends soon, Huckabee is toast on any TV show that hires joke writers. He is toast anyway because there is no way he can do this good in the rest of the country. But wait, there is even more good news. Thompson came in third with a strong showing. Thompson is looking for any out he can get to end his run, but now he has to stay in it even longer. Nothing like running for President against someone who really doesn't want to be President.

If I were McCain and Paul right now, I would be pretty happy.

The campaign needs to directly address the grassroots, with a galvanizing plan, and strategy quick smart, or I fear the wheels could come off.

"The young bastards failed us again." - Hunter S. Thompson after the 2004 election

Sure looked that way in Carroll County, anyway!

3rd place sure would have been sweet. A good show in NH will keep the campaign alive, hopefully.

Ron Paul crossed the picket lines too for Leno. And to be defeated by a guy that doesn't even really want to be President is not something to brag about.

There was a central computer tabulating the votes, no way to verify officially.

I don't trust it.

agreed but for some reason people cannot figure out when they look at the tv Rons name is never in the poll and intentionally left out. Do you honestly believe that if Ron was winning they would show it. That would never happen.

You're the precise reason of what's wrong with primaries.

Losing Iowa means squat. Clinton got 3% of Iowa back in the day. You know why Iowa gets a lot of weight in media? Because fairweather voters like yourself think one state out of 50 somehow means everything, and jumps ship to some other candidate when the primary in their state comes up.

RP is most popular amongst independents, left leaning ppl and libertarians. That is NOT the conservative constituency that makes up most of the Iowa voters. Losing Iowa was a no-brainer--in fact, 10% of fairly decent considering what the demographic is like there.

Clinton was a Democrat....ENTIRELY different caucus method.

Give me an example of a 5th place Repub who won...

Not saying there is no chance...hardly. There is a first time for everything. Just please stop using old Democratic results to predict Republican results.

Yeah 49 states to go.

Anyway, yes I was disappointed that the phone polls were relatively accurate. But 3/4 of the voters in Iowa are generally older, so the landline polling would be more accurate.

I think as we go into the other states, there should be improvements.

Keep the faith guys!

Now your just being an asshole. I'm entitled to my feelings. Of course I'm going to be bummed. I'm realistic. Will I stop supporting Ron Paul? No. But my optimism has been given a huge slap in the face. I never said I was jumping ship and it's pretty absurd to call any Ron Paul supporter a fairweather voter as if there has been any time when Ron Paul's campaign wasn't in chopppy waters. I've supportered Ron Paul since May and back then I didn't think there was a chance in hell that he would win.
