The "TikTok ban" goes beyond TikTok. It is another huge step toward total control.

It's controlled by the Chinese government, nobody disputes that. I believe that could be a real security and spying risk.

I don't have a problem with that specific action, but the bill as a whole is crap and shouldn't be passed as written.

What else do you think should be banned?

It's a social media app FFS. What the hell could they possibly spy on that makes a difference? You worried they’ll find out what kind of porn you’re watching and drop your social credit score or something? Or maybe they’ll get ahold of somebody’s shopping list! Oh noes!

More importantly, government lacks anything close to the legitimate authority to ban it.

He's insane.

Some of you here are being crazy and divisive. I'm on your side. This should not be passed as is. That said there is nothing wrong with taking a specific targeted action against a threat. I'm done, not posting about this anymore.

How soon till these loser polticans say that other platforms? and call it as a threat "to the American National Security"? because of the war in Ukraine? and anything to satisfy that dancing prick clown zelensky and their egos?

Simply put the US govt doesn't want "competition"

I still feel the same about this as I did last year. I'm actually ok with banning tik tok specificlally by name for the stated reason that it's Chinese owned and there are spying concerns. As far as the rest of the language that is in this bill, go fuck your self, not ok.

I have to agree with 69360 here, and that does not happen often.

TikTok is mind poison, a propaganda arm of a communist nation that just 5 years ago unleashed a man made bio plague on this country and the entire world, killing millions of people including well over a million fellow US citizens.

They have been held accountable in no way whatsoever.

Banning their propaganda organ in the US as one small way to hold the ChiComs to account is fine with me, and with millions of other US citizens.

So, in typical traitorous fashion, the pieces of shit that run this country write up legislation based on that outrage, and word it in such a way, that they will use this to shut down all criticism of them and their stinking fucking oligarchy.

Sounds about right. So I oppose this, and support Rand and Massie and others in opposition.

Had enough YET?

By banning Tik Tok they will go after Telegram and others that is not ok nor fair competition..

Banning their propaganda organ
If anyone doing any propaganda that is far superior that would be the mainstream news media and no matter then making up headlines like shooting "Chinese balloons"

Speaking for myself, I think people should probably be much more concerned about "Chinese controlled (or influenced)" politicians that everyone is forced to obey than "Chinese controlled (or influenced)" social media apps that no one is forced to use.

But maybe that's just me.

I agree.

People should be highly concerned about Chinese financial influence and leverage in politics.

Yes I am well aware of these facts.

That is why I am not in favor of this bill.

Had it been a "clean" bill that did nothing more than shut down a CCP propaganda organ, then I would have been in favor of it.

Hell, I would have been in favor of a retaliatory nuclear strike against the CCP once it became clear that they had committed the single largest mass murder in the history of mankind.

The fact that the CCP have in no way been held accountable for this, especially when it has become clear that the COVID plague was just a beta test for something much worse, is infuriating to me.

Right. The only things that brings both sides together are war and the small hat brigade. Pro-white content has been banned for years and no one cares.

How about a bill to force TikTok to have the Chinese algorithm where kids are constantly fed a stream of math, science and being a good patriot style content.

It wasn't China what happened with COVID considering u had these COVID vaccine companies that knew something like this would happen..

It wasn't just China.

dont forget that there are those biolabs/health labs operating in China and in countries like Ukraine that are funded an supported by Western Governments.

Yes, I am well aware of that as well.

If I had my way, firing squads would be too good for those Quislings and traitors.

But the fact remains, it was a Chinese state run facility that finished the gain of function work, released this virus on the world and then lied about it after the fact.

Regarding the underlined bit: YES. THERE. IS.

There is absolutely a hell of a lot wrong with doing such a thing.

This has been repeatedly pointed out and explained to you, [1]

But your only response to such criticisms is to whine about how the people who disagree with your liberty-destroying nonsense are being "crazy and divisive".

You explicitly support the government banning a voluntarily-used social media app just because you don't like the country it's from (and thus by implication, you are naive enough to actually trust the government to apply whatever passes for "justice" in your imagination when they exercise and enforce such bans) - so, no, you are certainly not on "[my] side".

("With friends like this ...")

I'm done, not posting about this anymore.

I can't say I blame you. If I were in the position of having to defend freedom-hating nonsense such as "there is no problem with the government banning specific things I don't like", I wouldn't want to post about it either.

[1] For just one example:
First up: banning any apps deemed by the feds to be "controlled by the Chinese government".

Next up: banning any apps deemed by the feds to be "controlled by the Chinese Russian government" ... and then any apps deemed by the feds to be "controlled influenced by the Chinese government" ... and then apps deemed by the feds to be "controlled influenced by the Chinese Russian government" ... and so on ... and so on ... and on ... and on ...

And there you and the feds will be, telling everyone "this is fine".

They were disappointed that their bat virus "gain of function" didn't kill enough Slavic people in the Balkans nor in Eastern Europe. It might have being Chinese state run but it likely was running not within Chinese govt authority.

I didn't say "highly", I said "more ... than".
