Some might say there's a strong correlation between spending a whole shitload of time on the internet and being a socially inept loser. It's another broad brush, and it looks just as dumb when it's used by people on here as it does when used by the powers that be.

You don't "get" sports; that's fine. I don't "get" watching gymnastics, that someone mentioned earlier. Watching a bunch of underaged, undeveloped girls (and boys, but that seems a little less popular) do backflips and swing from poles seems a wee bit disturbing. I'm not drawing any conclusions about those folks, though. Some might be sickos. Some might have been gymnasts when they were younger. Some might just be impressed by what the human body can do before its bones get all rigid

Is there anything more "sheep"y than "donate on such and such a day!"? There's an awful lot of hypocrisy out there. Some people enjoy one sort of distraction, and some enjoy another kind. I know this is silly to some, but there are plenty of folks who can fit both political procedures and sports trivia into their brains. They can knit, and know the Preamble to the Constitution by heart. They can win their Fantasy Football league, and donate the proceeds to Debra Medina or Adam Kokesh.

The assertion on here that most folks can't is sad.

I completely agree that it is their right to not give a crap about politics and philosophy, they are just one of many examples as to why the political system can never work. And these same people still vote, and hold a pretense of wisdom when they do so. Hence the frustration...

I agree that spending a lot of time on the internet is strongly correlated with social ineptitude, I might very well fit in to it.

The system "the founders" established was a type of democracy, I know people round these parts don't like to admit that but its true.

There may be certain utilitarian benefits to only allowing property owners to vote in terms of keeping the system going for a little bit longer.... But it still must be discussed that since we have embraced democracy, is there any moral argument as to why the right to vote must exclude everyone who isn't a white male property owner. Otherwise, why even pretend to value equality before the law, we can just overtly flaunt that we have a class of rulers and a class of the ruled. Of course we would have a ruling class either way (restricted voting or universal voting privilege), and there are no utilitarian or moral arguments for the existence of a ruling political class.

Than again, it may not be you that is socially inept. It is more likely you are much smarter than most of your peers and they couldn't carry on a sophisticated enough conversation with you. Generally, that seems the case to me. You probably don't hang around people as smart as you that often.

I only got about halfway into that video, but am going to go out on a limb here and say that it sounds like that guy got picked on by the jocks in highschool or something. I love Football and im not a koolaid drinker sheeple. I was even a loser flunky in HS and i guess you can say i was picked on by jocks sometimes, But i got over it and moved on with life. Unlike this Dbag who seems like the wedgie he got in gym class is still up there 20 years later so he has to bash people for enjoying competitive sports to make himself feel better about his own dumb life of wearing tin foil hats and playing on the internetz.

We don't need to belittle sports, we need to belittle obsession with sports. Same with any other form of entertainment that's non-educational. Every minute you spend doing one thing is a minute you can't spend doing everything else.

The truth is, most people who are obsessed with entertainment obviously have no purpose in their own lives. If they wish they were rich, instead of trying to earn extra money they'll just watch rich people spend their money. If they wish they were more athletic, instead of training their bodies they'll just watch athletes run around. The irony of both these situations is you're actually spending money to watch others spend your money, and you're losing athletic ability by watching others use theirs.

Being obsessed with anything isn't healthy - I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

Being obsessed with sports and doing nothing but eating doritos on the couch and getting fat all day isn't healthy. But spending 15 hours a day on RPF isn't healthy either.

I say the same thing to people who tell me McDonald's isn't healthy, or marijuana isn't healthy, or alcohol isn't healthy, or soda isn't healthy. I enjoy all four of those things I just mentioned and I have a clean bill of health and my abs compare with the situation. It's all about moderation.

Followed by an ARCA race and the Bud Shootout...Hell i guess my weekend is full of mind rot. To make it even better i will probably be sober only 24 hours out of the 72.

If it werent for sports there is no way in hell i would be able to stomach the crap the critters in DC pass and talk about. It breaks up the routine and actually gives me something to look forward to.

It's not about sports, specifically, but being more concerned and involved in a game rather than what's real.

If your house is in order, then no problem, hell, I like watching SpongeBob with the kids. A good movie or distraction is fun and neccessary.

But when a grown man can tell you what the Boston Red Sox batting averages for the last five year's starters are, but can't name a single "bill of right" or find Iraq on a world map, then there's something seriously wrong. (True story, my ex BiL, but he'd tell what his opinion was, that's for sure.)

Those are the people I'm talking about.

And if they never got within 1000 yards of a voting booth, then I wouldn't care in the least. But since they do, that's puts them up in my shit now, and that's a problem.

The guy on the video doesn't seem so healthy to me, either. He seems to have anger-management issues. He could have been volunteering his time to help a liberty candidate, but instead he's ranting and raving online via another YouTube video. He seems, instead, to take issue with a bunch of "steroid-using muscleheads" (Hmm that does NOT sound like he's making a distinction to me). I like how he suggests we could do our taxes instead of watching the game. "Show me the law!" where is it? No? Oh wait, he hates football players, so he's okay!

Sure there are a bunch of guys running around a field who sponsor charitable events and such, but they all use steroids, right? I think you're thinking of baseball, and even then, it's not everyone.

I suppose this is the wrong time, while we're talking about obsession and lack of productivity, to point out that Mr. "Get Up Off Your Couch" has almost 1,000 hits on YouTube when I search for "Mark Dice"?
