The Ron Paul 2012 Website isn't good

Why don't we do a web design contest????

This really requires a great deal of work that may not be used... or even reviewed. So, I agree with your premise but how about this... we hold off submitting designs until the campaign is willing to consider using them. To that end, let's turn your post into a suggestion for the official campaign (the purpose of this sub-forum).

Suggestion: Have a contest open to all for submission of a new site layout. Provide any specific parameters the campaign requires as well as any format requirements. Make it a contest (or other remuneration that would not affect the designers status) to incentivise designers to participate (perhaps, win a lunch date with Ron Paul, etc.). Give a hard date for submissions... a preview area to show some of the contenders... maybe a means of voting on the contenders. Turn the contest into an 'american idol' type project where the campaign chooses the finalists... and the grassroots chooses the winner. Allow for web teams to participate... some folks are good at layout some at images. Let's let folks combine their abilities for a better result. To help with such a project make materials (such as images, logos and icons) available to the designers that the campaign already has available.

That's overdoing in my opinion, can't we just submit some basic changes that we agree on and see if they'll consider them? I think the small fonts and the red on red menu most people have already agreed with. Let's not undermine the campaign. If I were a web developer the last thing I would want was a bunch of people showing me a new layout and then trying to recode their layout because they didn't like it. Let the webmaster make the changes...

While the official campaign cannot coordinate with the grassroots it would be great if you would make your needs known and let us know how the grassroots individuals could support Ron Paul.

Suggestion... Create a 'Grassroots Report' regarding upcoming & ongoing events and actions. Describe what is planned and let us know what you need. Not with any specific directions that would cause legal complications... but general information about what would be useful to the campaign to achieve an election victory. I think the grassroots individuals could take it from there to provide the needed support.

That huge video box on the front page should be a little smaller. That would be a good start, I think. The site looks good...just a few tweaks needed.

I really like the new website, but as other people have pointed out the HUGE video/money bomb ticker slot is oversized big time. They should shrink that, and make the link buttons bigger.

OMG... They fixed the giganto slider box at the top of the home page (mostly).
Kudos!!!

Please consider other suggestions in this thread... like the problem reading the font, picture of RP in the header, red on red color scheme (maybe increase the contrast, something so it is more readable).

And, please hire somebody to properly manage and maintain the social media sites (facebook, twitter). One talented individual would be very affordable (cheap) in comparative terms of the potential return. Since RP is all in... let's go ALL OUT! We've got to win this thing and the web could be a big part of reaching voters... and bringing in additional contributions.

If you were actually listening... thanks!

I was just talking to Joe about this last night...The whole "sign this petition to make sure they don't raise the debt ceiling" and it takes you to a donation page...I don't like that at all.

Me neither, but I am betting they do it this way because it works.

they can go to google or youtube and find any ron paul position and pretty much ever word he has spoken since birth.

They have begun to make really nice slides to go in the main box on the homepage. Very artistic.
They still NEED an endorsement page up though.

Wasn't there a website where you offer payment for design work submissions? Logos, Fliers, even custom designed websites?

There was a meetup group of designers, writers, etc. during the last cycle. I am not sure about their payment policy (if any). I am not sure if they still exist or if this is the group to which you are referring.
---- short search break ----
I just did a quick search and it appears that meetup group no longer exists. But, if I remember correctly, there was one big one and two smaller ones... though I can't find any of them.

So... I am useless regarding your question.
What do you have in mind?
Is there enough interest to try something like this again?

OMG... they have a Contact Us page up now!!!

http://www.ronpaul2012.com/contact-us/

I just filled out their form... here's what I submitted:

--------------------------------------
Greetings, I am a RP supporter and was active in the grassroots during the last campaign.

1. I (and others) have some suggestions we would like to submit for consideration. What is the best means for doing this?

2. I (and others) could use help from the campaign in the form of materials (images, PDFs of flyers, etc.) that might be used as our needs dictate. How can we get these made available to us?

3. Can we establish a better exchange of information (without collusion) so that grassroots efforts can compliment those of the campaign? (perhaps a grassroots liaison)

thanks
--------------------------------------

perhaps enough similar requests could get some action from them... hint, hint

Two days now since filling out the contact us form on the official website...
no response... no auto message... no phone call... no nothing
Not a great start.

Now, you know that RP supporters are not shy in requesting things. They have to have been bombarded. Give them a chance.

I tried to donate via the website yesterday and it said my address was not recognized as a valid US address. I wonder how often this has happened to other would be donors.

nobody wants to pay for anything. they seem to want it free if they wanted a good social marketing media plan. They would contact my wife etc etc who ranks very high! i just do not bother offering her services anymore since no one wants to pay her. the company she works for now she designed the site and marketing. the company also sent her work to california to a top company and the ceo of that company called back to say nothing else could be done since my wife did everything 100% correct! even ron paul supporters want something for nothing!!

It needs some work but lets not say it sucks because its all we have. I like to call it under construction. I only wish i could be the one working on it.

But if it sucks, then we should own up to the truth and endeavor to help change it.

Relative underdogs like RP cannot afford to ignore critical issues like this.

How about we try to help with a point by point analysis of what is good, what isn't, and give suggestions on how to make subtantial improvements?

Politics is ALL about PR where gaining office is concerned, particularly with less-clued voters. If we cannot get enough people to understand the RP position, then what the hell are we doing here?

How about it? Which aspects of the site do we find wanting?
