Ted Cruz goes after Donald Trump for attacking George W. Bush

Once upon a time, I actually liked Ted Cruz. But, to watch his tactics against Ben Carson and his constant lies about Trump, I no longer can stand the man.

That's not going to do any good. Even if they don't outwardly say it, most republicans know that Bush was a complete and total disaster.

Can you imagine the egg on the GOP leadership's face after this week, if/when Trump wins SC, despite his absolute trashing of the Bushes, despite W campaigning there, despite the 9-11 comments, despite Jeb spending more tens of millions, etc? Imagine all that money, pro-Bush rhetoric and media pushing, resulting in Jeb finishing in a pathetic fifth, or even sixth place?

For all we know, Cruz was under orders to start his hatchet job on Trump, as a condition of having taken some establishment donations. Yet Trump remains in full control, being in first place, and is now openly calling the party out on their dirty tricks or "unfairness." No wonder why they're in panic mode.

Came into office in the best of times- economy sound, budget deficit basically gone, world relatively peaceful. Left with worst recession since the Great Depression and two major wars going on and record budget deficits (not all of that necessarily Bush's fault- he had no control over the crash and Congress writes spending bills). Thought he could cut taxes to improve the budget and could fight the wars quickly and cheaply like his Dad did. Boy, was he wrong. "Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

I didn't like him from the moment I read the 14th Amendment. Everything since then has reinforced that...

Anybody coming to Dubya's defense on national security will not get my vote, end of story. Not that I was planning on voting for Cruz up until now, or that I plan to support Trump. There is no defense whatsoever for the Bush presidency, especially after the truth was discovered about Iraq in the mid 2000s.

where are all the Cruz apologists who will explain this as more pro-bush = pro-liberty???

Some of us aren't one issue foreign policy voters. It's become quite clear that people in the liberty movement only care about foreign policy and absolutely nothing else. It's a movement that's dedicated to one issue at the expense of all the others. That's why Trump and Sanders have so much support within the liberty movement, despite being hardcore progressive liberals who want to dramatically expand the size and scope of government.

i care about the federal reserve and IRS.

From what I can see, Cruz is better on those issues than Trump. Cruz has even advocated returning to the gold standard. (And yeah, I know he shouldn't have missed the audit the Fed vote, but that doesn't mean he opposes auditing the Fed)

Cruz also said he would get rid of the IRS.. Problem is you cant believe anything Cruz says because he has shown himself to be a liar over and over again...

This is clearly evident from his behavior in Iowa going after Carson.. I mean cmon.. if I trusted cruz to keep his word I would vote for him.. but hes a phony liar.. and everybody knows it now.

"Look at what’s happening today. The dollar is crashing. [Our debate moderator] suggests that we think of the economy, but not in foreign policy. You can’t do that. They’re one and the same. That’s where all the money’s going. We’re spending nearly a trillion dollars a year overseas maintaining this empire." -Ron Paul

Again, no wonder why Beck and Cruz get along, they're both playing the long con.

Cruz released the following statement on Monday:

“It is essential that we ensure our nation’s spending on military bases is prioritized appropriately. We need to decrease our overseas footprint. With multiple reports in the last year finding rising costs and a questionable use of taxpayer spending on overseas military bases, we should scrutinize that spending before considering any actions that will impact our domestic installations, many of which have undergone significant updates and improvements in recent years. This is important not only to the hundreds of thousands of troops serving on Texas bases, but also to service men and women across the nation.”

This is the problem with Cruz, he talks out of both sides of his mouth. On one hand he's talking about 'carpeting bombing' ISIS until 'the sand glows', and then he makes statements like this. Just like on NSA spying. And remember, the OP is about Cruz officially defending Bush's foreign policy actions, his true colors have been revealed.

Even Rand introduced a declaration of war against ISIS. Does that make him a neocon? Cruz has basically been saying, "focus on killing ISIS rather than invading foreign countries for the purpose of spreading democracy and nation building." That certainly sounds better than the kind of foreign policy that's promoted by Republicans like Bush and Rubio.

There Cruz goes stealing Ron and Rand talking points. Amazing that you fall for the bs that this dude spews. You would think after what he did to Carson, after the lies he has told on Trump you'd stop supporting a RINO Neo-Con.

He hasn't told any lies on Trump. Trump is a big government progressive liberal, which is what Cruz pointed out. Cruz didn't have anything to do with what his campaign team did regarding Carson. He wasn't involved in it. Perhaps he should've fired the people involved, but he didn't authorize it.

Except Cruz supported nation building in Iraq, which is why he is defending Bush here.
