Tampa Convention Hurricane Watch

To be clear..... No one is saying Tampa is going to be destroyed or devastated. The fact is though it is a logistically unrealistic for the RNC to happen as planned if even a Tropical Storm comes within 100 miles of Tampa. Maybe even further.... Imagine if the National Guard, and others cannot go help impacted areas since they are guarding the RNC? You have to be able to use the emergency resources; police, fire, medical, etc. Not only that you would not want impeaded access due to the road closures and other security issues. The mayor of Tampa could kiss another term good bye if he put the RNC before the safety of HIS residents. he already has said he will shut it down if needed. This is not just about the storm but the impact on transportation, power, and many other things. I stand firm by my prediction that by Friday if the current storm tracks are still validating that the RNC will have to act. I honestly think with so many coming from out of state they should decide tonight.

Exactly.

For these very reasons, the welcome event as Tropicana Field should be postponed immediately REGARDLESS of track. If by tomorrow, the track veers away from Tampa, they can put it back on the schedule.

And yes, Ron Paul should postpone the Whiskey Joe's event. That's actually more dangerous for the particpants. The welcome event screws up St. Petersburg. If people need to get out, a significant highway and major roads are blocked by the event.

How does this forecast from Weather.com correspond with a hurricane?

Well...weather.com and the NWS both have "Tropical Storm conditions possible" on Sunday and Monday for my zip code. I'll wait another 24 hours, but I'm probably going to cancel my ticket to Ron's rally on Sunday. :( There is no way I'm driving back in the rain.

Here is the Strength Probability Table from the NHC (Look at Hour 120)

It seems like this has a better chance of being a Moderate to Strong Tropical Storm than being a Hurricane but the chance becomes smaller between Hour 96 and Hour 120

Really? You're gonna let rain stop a r3volution? As long as Ron's still coming him and I could be the only ones in the stadium and I'll still be there.

Unreliable....and I say that from experience.

Actually,, if the present track is correct (seldom the case) the storm will be just coming off Cuba on Sunday.
And storms generally lose strength over Cuba..

That is if it doesn't pass south of Cuba,, or to the north. It is too far out to make dire predictions at this point..

But that never stopped anyone before.

OT, but this worries me for different reasons. IIRC, Isaac's projected path is similar to the one that Katrina was supposed to take (it was supposed to strike FL panhandle) but because Katrina kept drifting farther to the west, it increased in intensity and hit us instead. I could see that happening again with this one.

Or it could curveball right into the bay, which would certainly be ugly.

No disrespect Utah... just saying I'm not convinced local officials really give a hoot about any of us.

Damage caused by a tornado spawned by Hurricane Cindy in 2005....just barely a cat 1:

For those not familiar with Florida tornadoes, they are not like midwest tornadoes. At most, a few buildings get damaged... like I said, I wouldn't want to be in a trailer, but the tornadoes in FL, even when spawned by hurricanes are usually 60-70 mph and travel a block or two as much as I've ever heard.

Tampa has pretty vicious thunderstorms daily this time of year for a few hours every day, so you might as well cancel your ticket now if that is your criteria.

If the track runs right up the state, it will just be a bunch of rain. If a cat 2 hurricane curved right into my house from the gulf, the only thing I'd do is throw my lawn furniture in the pool. (so it doesn't fly anywhere.)

RNC might wish to cancel for their own reasons.

You would never have survived one of AF's voyages.

Rain + wind + crazy Florida drivers normally don't equal a good combo. It's a 3+ hour drive from where I live to Tampa. I probably wouldn't be home until 10 that night, and I have crap to do early the next morning.

Now if I was a delegate, you bet your @$$ I'd be there. But I tried, and was not wanted. :p

Its a 2 hr flight plus i won't be able to leave on monday when I was supposed to. I plan on partying like its 1999

Same. I don't think people realize that North Florida is still recovering from Debbie + recent above-normal rain. Several rivers up here are expected to hit flood stage. People who "almost" lost their homes earlier this season will find that "almost" no longer applies if Isaac drifts into the area and dumps a bunch of rain. I will have bigger fish to fry.
