The family of a 27-year-old Louisiana woman whose body was dumped at a vacant apartment building is outraged that the man whom she was last seen with and who later dumped her body is on probation.
Damion Matthews, 38, was arrested February 23, 2023 on two charges of unlawful disposal of remains and obstruction of justice in the death of Macy Peebles.
Peebles first met Matthews when the pair were at a casino. The young woman left with Matthews before she turned up dead. He was later accused of discarding the women's remains, and moving her corpse, officials said.
On Tuesday, at his trial hearing in 19th District Court in Baton Rouge he faced Judge Louise Hines, and entered a guilty plea, his public defender Alex Hertenstein told DailyMail.com.
It is unclear if Matthews entered a plea deal to a lesser charge. Hertenstein did not immediately respond back to DailyMail.com's further requests for comment.
Matthews bonded out of the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison a day after his arrest on $15,000 bail.

Homicide Detectives received information that the victim was at a local casino and was possibly seen leaving with an unknown Black male,' in the arrest affidavit, as per the news outlet.
Surveillance footage showed Peebles leaving the casino with Matthews around 2.30 am. Detectives suspect the woman died of a possible overdose, WBRZ Baton Rouge News reported.
On February 23, 2023, around 8.30am, deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office responded to 8838 GSRI Avenue about an unresponsive person outside of a vacant 4-plex apartment unit that was under construction.
Deputies identified the deceased as the 27-year-old woman.
Investigators went through surveillance footage from different cameras. The first camera showed that Peebles' body was not at the location where her body was later discovered.
Surveillance footage from the apartments showed a man, later identified as Matthews driving by the apartment complex and leaving the body behind a fence, as per the news outlet.
Investigators believed Peebles had been moved to the apartment location based on the position of the body and her clothes which indicated that she was dragged to the location.
As detectives were securing the crime scene, Matthews was seen on several different cameras driving around the area. At one point, he is seen at the crime scene asking a deputy about the investigation, Unfiltered with Kiran reported.
Investigators were able to use license plate readers to identify his car.
Video footage also showed that he was dressed in the same clothes as he was wearing the night he met Peebles at the casino.
