Stop Blaming Old People.

The irony is that in 10 years after they're dead an buried, the rest of us have to live with the consequences of their votes. My parents (in their 70's) went to the polls today thinking they'd vote for RP or Huck. I tried my damnedest to get them to think about their vote. They both voted for McCain. I spend 30 min on the phone this evening explaining how disappointed I was - that their vote countered mine, and it was MY GENERATION who would pay for their stupid vote. I really got angry.

I agree, let's not blame the elderly. Scapegoating them does us no good. Many of them just aren't willing to learn how to use the Internet, and they've relied on the media for far too long to suddenly decide that it's nothing more than a lie.

Its just foolish. Ive lived in Florida all my life.

The problem isnt Old People, its the Media that they watch and trust.

The elderly here do not know how to use computers very well, the majority do not even own one nor want to mess with them.

They refuse to want to learn, and dont want to change their ways.

Its a fact.

Blame the Media.

It doesn't matter. Blame the media all you want. But if the grassroots doesn't try to canvas senior communities and go door to door in senior communities then they will never be informed about Ron Paul and we will never get their vote. It helps the Establishment beat us that much easier.

The Establishment is counting on uninformed Seniors and it is working.

This is why we need to do presentations in RETIREMENT HOMES. I can't emphasis this enough. YOU ARE THE MSM! Now do something about it.

Sorry, I DO blame them. Old people ( anyone over 60 ) have seen their rights being eroded their entire lives. They are also the ones that have LET THAT HAPPEN TO US. If any single group is to blame for letting our freedoms slip away, it is (collectively speaking) the elderly amongst us.

And remember that old people have lived a long time. Of all of us, they should be the ones to say, "Holy Shit", where did all these taxes come from? They didn't exist when I was young. Will my great grandchildren have the same opportunities that I did?

Instead they vote for warmongers so that those great grandchildren can go get killed in order to protect "our freedoms" that they still imagine we have.

The computer literacy thing is also B.S... my parents kept informed. They were members of the JBS, supported Goldwater, etc. And I'll tell you what, the MSM wasn't any less biased back then either.

Myself, I discovered libertarianism when I was 14, before I'd even heard of the internet. I quickly convinced my mother it was the way to go. I knew instantly that libertarianism was for me, because I had already thought through and internalized the key concepts. Eg, THE GOLDEN FRICKIN RULE: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. If you are a truly moral person, liberarianism is the only fully consistent philosophy possible.

Sorry, these people are simply too friggin lazy and too uncritical to analyze things rationally, or indeed to even have original political thought. They were apathetic when they were young, and they are even moreso now that they have free time between cashing social security checks.

If that sounds harsh, I don't give a rat's ass. I left the U.S. years ago to get away from people that call themselves patriots while not even understanding the meaning of the word. They make me sick.

If its any consolation, it's not just old people. I estimate that 90% of the U.S. population couldn't give a shit about freedom beyond paying it lip-service. Their time will come.

HELL YES I blame the old people. Because of there passiveness and ignorance I have inherited this broken country.. and they continue to fuck it up

I get it. It's the old people's fault.

Never mind the fact that a lot of young people are too lazy to get off their asses to do anything about their country.

Yep. It's all elderly!

Soooo, did you ask them how they're going to feel when you come home from some foreign adventure in a body bag? I finally talked my mom in to RP by asking her to think about if that was what she wanted for her grandchildren.

It's the fault of anyone who doesn't get out and try to convince everyone.

And if we young people don't fix it now, will it be our "fault" in 30 years that we didn't do something now??

Remember that generations overlap... Just do everything you can do, and then know that it isn't YOUR fault.

That's not saying that I like old people though ;)

If I were a senior and I did want to learn about Ron Paul and I found this site..I would be very turned off by the tone of this thread.

Blame them silently if you must...meanwhile we need a way to get to them and teach them and turn them around!

Positive out equals positive in
C'mon people!

At least young people who don't know what the fuck is going on generally have the good sense not to vote.

Old people are just as clueless (or moreso) and keep repeating the same actions that got us into trouble -- expecting a different result. The very definition of insanity.

This time around, they had (have) a real choice, and can't even see it in front of their faces. You know a lot of them watched the debates... they heard Ron Paul saying the same things that you and I did.

Decrepit fools.

Has is occured to all of you that are bashing seniors that

Ahem:

Ron Paul is a senior!
Do you think he would like to see this disrespect in his name?
I think NOT

When I see proof young people care about their country, then maybe I'll listen to what you have to say.

If young people are too lazy and don't care enough to take back their country, they have no one to blame but themselves. This is coming from a "young person."

What nonsense. Got one thing right, at least this time there is a good choice. It's the first time in my lifetime for that.

People think young people who don't know anything will not vote? I talked to my youngest brother today (who's still in high school), and everyone in his class and all of the seniors support Obama! Why? "Because black dudes is awesome!" Oh yeah, that's intelligence. I hate to think that these morons might actually vote.

I agree with you that young people are under illusion that the government should take care of them.

"I suppose it's easier to blame the government when your life sucks than it is to blame yourself." -- Me earlier

thread TL: DR, but in response to OP, thread title don't blame old people quickly followed up by well it's their fault that they are too stupid to realize the media lies to them, and that they then go vote whether they are informed (by the media) or not informed at all (because it's apparently their civic duty to go fuck things up).

No, I'm sorry, by and large, fuck old people.

I completely disagree. I blame the old people, not the media. I did my homework. I researched all the candidates and their positions on the issues.
There's no reason why the old people can't do the same research online or offline with something so important as the next election instead of allowing themselves to be brainwashed by the media. If the old people care about their Social Security checks, then they should bother to research which candidate will do the most for Social Security before S.S goes broke.
If S.S goes broke during McCain administration because McCain is wasting the Social Security cash to pay for wars I will be laughing at them.
