Besides half the states voting already, you guys realize most of the delegate tricks that worked last time are blocked, right? In my own state, Minnesota, which had a Ron Paul delegate majority last time, delegates are now bound to the straw poll results to prevent another Ron Paul 2012 redux.
It was as longshot last time when Ron Paul kept lots of people energized until nearly the end. This time around, there's no support for Rand delegate fights outside a tiny number of people on this forum. There is no organic momentum remaining for Rand and it seems like he dropped out an eternity ago.
A much better option is funneling that energy into electing other liberty minded candidates.
not completely true.
to contest Trump, the GOP needs a brokered convention to go to the 2nd round of voting.
By rule, starting in the 2nd round, all delegates are unbound.
Aren't there a couple states bound by statute to the 2nd round?
The RNC/GOP wants to win the Senate. Rand will ensure that in Kentucky. They aren't going to nominate Rand, or Rob Portman, or any other Senator in a state that could potentially go Democrat. You don't even need to assume them all to be a bunch of lying, corrupt neocons in order to arrive at the conclusion that Rand has no chance.
Yes.
If Boehner is saying that Paul Ryan should get the nomination, then HELL YES.

Agreed.
Also, Rand at this point has a much better chance of advancing the Liberty cause as a Senator.
I would favor a "Draft Amash" movement as best strategy in a contested convention scenario. To make this work, Liberty people have to get themselves elected as delegates, however temporarily allocated and bound by rule to a different, non-liberty candidate.
Can't vote on the second ballot unless you're on the floor. Rand will not have any delegates allocated to him other than the single delegate that he earned in Iowa, except in the highly-unlikely event that he un-suspends his presidential campaign and then actually gets traction in remaining primaries. Rand will not want to jeopardize his near-certain win in the Senate race for the thin chance of getting the presidential nod at the convention.
We lat least try it and if Rand wants to do it we at least give him the option.
If he wants to, he needs to say so yesterday.
I see no reason to go through all the trouble and expense of becoming a national convention delegate without Rand even wanting to pursue the nomination.

But it isn't just about the national convention. It's about state county executive committees, and chairman positions at every level.
