I don't believe such a thing can really happen in America for a number of reasons, but the most prominent one is based on the idea of national culture. In European countries, unless you are born French, it doesn't matter if you become a French citizen and speak French fluently and learn French customs: you still cannot be French. The same applies for all European nations to a degree: they are based on Ethnic groups and not general idea's, and therefore no matter how hard they try and assimilate their immagrant populations a rift will, almost must always exist. That is partly why you see such anger from the Muslim populations in those countries, becuase it becomes us vs. them.

In America, I like to believe it's different. Their is really no "American" race (aside from Native Americans): indeed, since its first years the nation has been basically a nation of immgrants. Socitey evolved to the point in which being American had much less to do with your family history and much more to do with you ideals. After the first generation, immagrants have a very good history of becoming fully integrated into the national fabric, and while some xenophobia exists at the beginning (as it did with the Irish, Germans, and currently with the Hispanic migrations) this eventually subsides. I believe it is the same with American's muslim minority.

I was recently in England and can verify that 80% of the people I saw were immigrants. Many were muslim and many were Indian. But, in my mind, the UK has gotten what it deserves after years of colonization, intervention, and opression throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

It's not just England either. Spain and France are being overrun as well.

British Muslims, are the more lets say "radical" Muslims, this will never I repeat NEVER happen in America, because American Muslims are much more in touch with the western world, they came here for the same reasons any other immigrant came. As for Britain, France Germany, its a bit different, they still clash onto there eastern beliefs, and are more isolated from the rest of the country.

Germany, France, Britain, have all had terrorists attacks, cause the Muslims over there are isolated, hold on to there eastern beliefs on Sharia law, and to be honest more radical.

in America, this will never happen, Arab/Muslims had to adapt to the "American" society, and want to reach the American dream, and most have, thats why theyre wealthy, there not the poor isolated radical people you see in Europe, they have sophistication, class, and importantly Americanization.

Have no fear.

Not to mention, people would be extremely surprised at how much those countries antagonize them also. Some of those countries, especially France, has some pretty extreme racism towards Muslim groups. Not only that, but the government takes actions such as banning the use of burkas by any women and girls in schools, which is absolutely ridiculous. So while the Muslims in those countries do hold a lot of extreme beliefs, they get violent mostly because they are equally antagonized and disrespected.

Overall, those countries are a mess. America is a much preferred country for Muslims in general, because we respect their rights to practice their religion, as any religion, and are not very oppressive towards them.

Thats at least the other half of the problem.

Haha, it really depends on the city. Middle Eastern people always seem to find cities they like and all move there...like it would surprise most people how many hundreds of thousands of Persians live in Los Angeles, or how high the percentage of Muslims and Arabs is in Portland.

I'm Dutch so I can tell you the problem with our immigrants and why it is so different in your country. In your country immigrants come and know they have to work hard to make a living. That is the American dream, the american spirit. They much sooner adapt to society.
In Holland however we have this collectivist idea. These collectivist/socialist politicians think: "ohhh immigrants, such poor people, we have to help them get by". So they get free housing, welfare, free schooling, free healthcare, etc. etc. the list goes on. Thereby removing the incentives for working hard, earning their living and they adapt much later to Dutch society. This also makes people quite angry because they see their hard earned tax cash being sent to people who don't deserve it. But the socialist/weak-kneed politicians can't get trhough their heads that both immigrants and citizens will actually be better off if they don't get welfare and have to work to make a living.
Also we have very lenient law enforcement. If you kill someone in this country you only go to jail for some 2 years in some instances, if you rob someone only a few months. (once again thanks to those socialist politicians: poor criminals, they need to be helped and deserve a 2nd chance.....) There are quite a few dissaffected immigrant youth (because the welfare situation and the tightly regulated job market makes it harder to get a job), who steal and commit vandalism in groups. This is not tackled at all by the politicians: "we need to talk to them, we don't need to be harsh."
Well you can see the problems. In trying to be soft on immigrants they actually make life harder for them and for their acceptance in Dutch society. This in turn breeds discontent and sometimes extremism on both sides (both citizens and immigrants). So I think the socialist politicians have created this mess.
I hope you can see why things are so different in the United States and why your country, or the ideals which your country once stood for (you need Ron Paul damnit!) are so much better for immigrants and lead to their better adjustment to society than here in Holland.

Europe has by and large rejected its Christian heritage. I am of the view that one doesn't have to be Islamophobic to regret the fact that many Christian lands are basically committing suicide because of globalization and postcolonial liberal guilt.

I agree, but many are missing the point. The problem with Europe (noted in Pat Buchanan's book The Death of the West) is a bad immigration policy based on cultural relativism. It probably is suicide for Europe to stay on track to import so many people with no investment in Western culture, but what the hell does this have to do with Ron Paul or the outrageous interventionist foreign policy of neoconservatives. These same neoconservatives have, over the years, been among the biggest cheerleaders for nearly-unlimited immigration from cultures that have never been assimilated by Western nations. So how would accepting the status quo benefit us or Europe.

The same thinking that led to the European Union and massive Muslim immigration is the same thinking the internationalists in the US have regarding Mexican immigration and the North American Union -- sovereignty no longer matters.

So, to the original poster, if your friend supports neoconservative Republicans, I believe we'll continue down the path to internationalism and interventionist policy that helps foster radicalism.

We have all those same problems here in the US, maybe to a lesser extent, but the welfare state has financed and encouraged illegal immigration at the expense of tax payers. We have plenty of politicians who also encourage immigrant groups to be separate from the mainstream, which another area where I believe Ron Paul's message of liberty could be beneficial. I think the nation stands on a precipice of socialism and multiculturalism/balkanization vs. individual liberty and the melting pot. They really are opposing forces.

It's the LEGAL IMMIGRANT Muslims that are great. I know quite a few and I like them. I occasionally persuade them to side-step Allah and go drinking. On the flip side, the muslim cab drivers and low-income illegals that are flooding the sanctuary cities are NOT Americanized.

People need to understand that immigration is ok, but they better figure out that it's importing poverty that does more to damage them than anything else. You don't hurt as much if you import engineering PhDs as you do when you import cab drivers and landscapers.

People complain about H1Bs. They're not nearly as damaging as MILLIONS of unskilled laborers pouring in and latching onto the welfare system.

I live in Britain. We are being played off against each other on purpose. There are a few nutters, minute in number who have taken advantage of young Muslims anger about the war to recruit.

They are still relatively small in number. They are useful to the government and their media puppets though, as they are a great excuse for scaring the public into surrendering more freedoms.

The most telling thing I remember is a post, (where cant remember), from a guy talking about the only people with guns over there
