Screw Rush if they don't want Rand playing their music....

Whether or not you agree with IP, at the moment it's law and I hope if Rand was really a fan he'd go along with their request instead of throwing a tantrum.

Using unlicensed music in a campaign is a big no no. You pay, or get permission, or you don't use it.

There is a difference between using music as your campaign "theme song" or in a commercial or using it repeatedly, and just having different songs for atmosphere music on the campaign trail that don't even relate to the speeches.

*facepalm* :(
Look, I just got angry last night. Its just unpleasant for me to have one of my favorite bands dragged through the mud over such a minor thing. Danno's comment just really set me off. I mean, if they hadn't "sold their soul" to the big record company, I probably would've never heard of them, as well as other bands.

When I made these comments I was tired and on certain meds, so I wasn't in my right state of mind. I apologize to the people here and to dannno. But please don't get so upset with Rush just because they don't want their music to be involved in politics. At least they weren't saying "oh we don't want that racist playing our music". That I would've gotten upset over.

Copyright not needed for this

Really? Why not?

Edit: From what googling I've done, it certainly looks like Copland's music, including "Fanfare for the Common Man" is copyrighted.

I heard this yesterday from a staffer. I guess Rush doesn't allow their music used with any political campaign or group. It's one of Rand's favorite groups. They've asked for them not to do it anymore.

No biggie.
The thread title makes it seem like Rush doesn't want Rand to use their music, which is misleading because they don't want anyone to use their music. Big difference.

what a bunch of assholes.
No, not really.

I was just reading an interview with David Byrne and I thought he did an excellent job explaining why he not only doesn't want his music used for commercial or political purposes but why he's initiated a lawsuit against Charlie Crist. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/;kw=[36885,163393]

I agree. If it isn't partisan it is just a pushy copyright position. They may be wrong on the law, but what politician wants the media on this? Many bands just want royalties. if they just don't want their songs used in a way that some will love but others will hate, and say that across the board.... it is just their position.

More possible Rand Paul theme music/victory speech intro music:

I am inclined to see lots of free market symbolism here. And Spirituality. Notice the footage of we scruffy Paul supporters early in video scurrying about and very agitated by the Federal Reserve monolith (from 0:20 to 0:24).
