Ron Paul Should Move to New Hampshire for the Free State Project

I meant to say border locked.

Wrong, NH also borders Canada.

Georgia isn't the best state but I cannot just get up and move.

Fair enough.

Where I live it is pretty rural so its not too bad. And that is another disadvantage with New England, high population density.

I understand that may be the perception, but it's also untrue. NH population density is 147/sq mi. Georgia is 165/sq mi.

And most of NH is hardly populated at all -- almost all of the population is in the south-east part of the state.

Those northern states like Wyoming and Montana would be the best choices for the FSP, imo.

There are many, many reasons why Wyoming and Montana are inferior choices, starting with a much less accessible legislature, and a state so large that it's nearly impossible to travel/cooperate on activities in different corners of the state.

Feel free to move to WY or MT, if that's where you want to live ;). But, I think your perception of NH is highly inaccurate. Have you ever been there?

New Hampshire is currently the freest state. The question is how long that will hold up.

Actually, it's getting freer all the time. Last year the budget was CUT 12% -- as in, actually lower, not a cut in the increase. Tell me, what other state cut their budget at all?

In other news, a bill is now law in NH that defense attorneys may inform the jury of their perogative to "judge the law" as well as the facts and defendant.

Also all knives are now legal in NH.

Also just about all restrictions/notification requirements for homeschooling have been eliminated: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2012/HB1571.html
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2012/HB0545.html

A new voucher program was just created, which enables businesses to donate to help public school students attend private school, instead of paying a large portion of their business tax.

Yea, and it's cold. Not my particular taste. I would love to see a state that has more of a city atmosphere and was a little warmer, but what are you going to do.

I still can't believe they chose New Hampshire. It is landlocked by liberal cesspools.

Maine has a tea party Republican Governor, Paul LePage, who has been standing with the Maine Ron Paul Delegation.
The State House is Republican
The State Senate is Republican
Both US Senators are Republican (that will change in November).

Maine is about in the middle.

New Hampshire is being flooded by people who work in MA. This won't stop. The growth is in the Boston suburbs. Free State can't win.

Maine's population is constant. People moving there could make a difference.

But, yes, Maine currently has more laws. But the marijuana laws are better in Maine.

Portland has a city atmosphere. Most cities are full of Liberals btw. See my Portland live music map. Portland has the best music scene per capita.

NH already has a history of leaning libertarian, not the case for Maine. This is like the difference between Texas and Oklahoma, or Arizona and Nevada. Sure there are small differences but there's a culture and notoriety for one but not the other. You can't just create that. The "Live Free or Die" state is the obvious choice. Add the FSP on top of that and it is a no-brainer. Maine would make no sense.

Maine has a history of actually ELECTING Independents. And, remember, the thread is in large party about Ron Paul specifically. If the question is "should the free state project move from where it already is and has been for years?" you'll get one answer. If the question is "where should Ron Paul move to?" you'll get a different answer.
If the question is "where's the best place to be if SHTF?" a different answer.

But there are fewer laws and less government in NH than Maine.

Please at least try to be honest. You seem like a really good activist but to encourage any liberty lover to move to Maine for anything related to liberty (other than a paying job) seems like nuts to me. Maine is certainly less free than the average state. Anyone that even likes liberty should consider running away from Maine as quickly as possible. Any honest look comparing me and nh or me and even the average state when it comes to freedom would come to the same conclusion, IMO.

Maine isnt a hell hole. It isn't ca or il. However, it is possible that maine is a lost cause, at least for the next decade or so. Maine continues to do ok because it is next to nh. The people of me should be so greatful it is next to nh, as it certainly helps keep me from being near the least free state. For example, politician in me mention nh when they talk about tax and economic policies. Heck, Maine banned the sale of fireworks from the 1970s until last year. One of the main arguments used to allow th sale of fireworks in me is that nh does it so we need to.

I like me. It is a great state to visit. It has some nice beaches. It just isn't a liberty destination and cdoesnt have a history as one. Maine isn't hong kong, swittzerland or new Hampshire.

A trend that I see as encouraging is, more and more, Massholes are bypassing NH and heading right to Maine instead.

I hope we can have some impact on ME over the years, it truly is gorgeous state.

So is VT, which I don't consider a "lost cause" by any stretch at all.

I dream someday of a Northern New England Alliance, with all three states roughly on the "same page", liberty wise.

The extreme cold in the winter I see as a positive, keeps us from being Californicated.

You know, the southern part of NH actually elects most of the strongest pro-liberty reps. Some of the areas farthest from Boston, like Keene and Hanover are the most anti-liberty.

Often, the people commuting to Boston are the people hate MA taxes/bureaucracy, and love liberty enough to intentionally move to NH. One shouldn't assume they're necessarily an anti-liberty influence.

That is a big part of why I am looking into NH as my next home. Texas (especially Austin) is being overran by Californians. And I miss actual seasons and SNOW!

It is well known that Maine is by no means a republican state.

Nh is certainly not being flooded by people from ma. I've prove that here more than once youkow know that.

Fspers have been very successful in towns and cities not fan from ma such as Manchester, Nashua, Bedford, Windham, goftstown, seabrook and so on. What you are saying about this is the exact opposite of the truth.

I agree the marijuana laws are better in Maine. There are likely plenty of issues or areas where there is more freedom in Maine than nh. However, certainly, overall, the freest state is far more free than a below average place like Maine. There is no point in even trying to compare freedom in the two places. If anything, liberty people should be leaving Maine and they are leaving Maine, which makes a lot of sense.

I could see someone from rural nv, rural co or rural sd encouraging people to join the liberty movement in those areas by moving there. Those states are much more free than a place like Maine. It is pretty silly to encourage liberty lovers to move to Maine when they have to pass nh to get to Maine. If someone wants to live in new England and really loves liberty, they might as well live in the freest state in the nation instead of a below average place.

I lived in Maine and owned a business in Maine and a home in Maine.

Just the tax burden alone is eye popping.

How about $989 on the second year of depreciation, just to register a 2001 Dodge van with an MSRP of $22,500?

And keep in mind that they charge you on the STICKER price, not what you actually paid.

There is no doubt there is that.

But Ron Paul can afford these things.

LOL - But honestly, do you really think he'd be inclined to subject himself to that?

I appreciate the effort, but, as someone who has lived there, worked there, and owned property there...

NH > ME

Trust me on this.

I don't like your "land" link. http://realtor.com is good. Maine has a wider variety.
The cheapest for NH was 13.1 acres for $29.9. It's in Coos County, where Ron Paul won.
You can get 141 acres for 100K in my town, which is a ocean fishing village. It's not oceanfront, but it has a stream.
http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/0-Cushing-Rd_Friendship_ME_04547_M36345-13909
1.5 hours from Portland.
http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/12-Carriage-Ln_Pembroke_ME_04666_M41510-94068 - here's
25 acres for $12K - less than a mile from the ocean in Washington County, less than 10 miles from Canada.

Safety, NH is 1, Maine is 4. CNBC list, NH is 1, Maine is 4. Netscape list, NH 1, Maine 20. NH has it over Maine on jobs by a wide margin.

Hmm. If government hassle now is the top priority, outweighing everything else, NH wins.

But theres more better stuff in Maine.

Ron Paul is rich, lack of annoying government taxes wouldn't likely be the reason he would pick a state. He did WIN in Maine, you know.

Maine makes a stronger case for Ron Paul, and doesn't make the stronger case for "Free State Project".

I doubt very much he's going to move to either state, so this argument is pointless and the question, moot.

Of course government hassle is the top priority. Where the hell do you think you are? :p If it wasn't everyone would move to Hawaii.

Ron Paul should move to Virginia, home of Busch Gardens,Water Country USA and the world famous Virginia Tech football team.

GO HOKIES!!!!
