Ron Paul: I went

I believe Newt also was quoted as saying something along the lines of "I think it was the right war [Vietnam] at the right time."

Interesting, you effing chickenhawk.

Here it is:

Like most of his generation, Gingrich was moderately anti-Establishment (he tried pot, and participated in a campus protest at Tulane University) and chose not to go to Vietnam, opting for deferments available to him as a father and a student. But unlike most young men his age, Gingrich would be haunted by his decision. Later, when, as a hawkish congressman, he would lash out against the "weak-on-defense left" and espouse universal military training, his opponents would investigate Gingrich's own military background.

Sure enough, he found himself listed among a sizable group of noted conservative hawks (including George Will and Richard Perle) who had managed to avoid the war-the "war wimps," as they came to be called. In 1985, he told Jane Mayer of The Wall Street Journal that he still believed that "Vietnam was the right battlefield at the right time." Why didn't he go? "Given everything I believe in, a large part of me thinks I should have gone over," he allowed. But, recovering, he added, "Part of the question I had to ask myself was what difference I would have made."

Wow, just wow.

if i remember correctly
the crowd did not clap for any person on the stage the whole night prior to that moment (wonder why myself)
it was the first clapping for any candidates, therefore even though the clapping wasn't as loud as the ones later on
it was very significant, because it actually motivate people from breaking the rules of not clapping to clapping
thoughts?

Didnt watch the debate but good observation.

"The exchange had little to do with the top issues in the campaign to date – such as the economy, the budget and Iran."

Yah because endless trillion dollar wars have nothing to do with the economy or budget, wow...

Who wrote that article?

They need some schooling.

Newt's answer didn't make sense. Basketball isn't on tonight, is it?

Yeah he said "NCAA basketball championship." No basketball tonight, and the NCAA football championship is tomorrow. Only NFL tonight (Saints/Lions). And then Santy and Mitt chimed in with "me too" because they couldn't think of anything else.

WOW!!! I'm so glad he came out swinging there, and he totally showed that he truly CARES about the lives of our young men serving in the military, unlike the warmongering phonies who send them out and never would serve themselves. YAY RP!!!

Didn't Newt out and out lie by saying he never got a deferment?

He said that he never asked for one. It'll be probably harder to prove that he did ask for one, but he definitely received them.

Is it just me or can you hear some people cheering loud but way out of range of mics? During the silence i mean. Its like you can hear paul campaign staff in the background.

What a BOSS. This moment will definitely go to the 'BOSS Hall of Fame'. Incredible moment.

A more honest media would have pointed out the glaring error made while attempting to pander.

You could hear Newts confidence rising as he finished his statement, thinking: yeah i got this. Then out of nowhere, BAM! takedown! Love it
