Ron Paul HQ Launches Mail Iowa Program!

Has anyone considered sending hand written post cards as opposed to letters.

A 6" x 4.25" post card can provide a world of information and the postal rate is only $.24 as opposed to $.41.

$.41???

Man have I been sleep walking. I can't remeber the last time I mailed anything. Doesn't everybody use bill payer services these days?

My wife sends out christmas cards. I think it has been years since I send a letter.

Wow! fabulous idea! I might sign up now because I love making postcards. Need to see how much postage money I have.

Are the Iowans being sent letters registered as Republicans and Independents? Or is this just a blanket mailing to people of all political parties?

I got my addresses the same day that I asked for them. I think they are on top of this and trying to get them distributed.

Don't dawdle! Even if you just feel like writing 5 letters. Just ask for some addresses and get on it.

Bump. Did 15 more tonight, that makes 65 completed. I have to admit, writing letters is monotonous.

But I do think that that sincerity is the best way to cut through the advertising clutter. At least all these people will have now HEARD OF Ron Paul.

I requested 10. I will hand-write the letters and enclose a dvd of Dr. Paul.

I received my set of addresses, and just for the record it did have people's birthdates and genders on it (oops?). Anyway, I thought the idea of sending postcards was great! I write in a nice small hand, and am going to pick up some "scenic america" type cards to send to my Iowans. Who wouldn't read the back of an unexpected postcard? :)

I'm sorry I'm a bit late getting into this but I requested 50 addresses and I'm going to try to get every member of my meet-up to request and write to at least 10 a piece, if I am successful that will be a combined total of 200 letters from the small yet growing area of Quakertown Pennsylvania.

If I can complete 50, I will request more, I do have some time set aside this weekend for writing, who knows.

Here is my letter I came up with after tweaking somebody else's. Any suggestions on how to shorten this without losing important information. I am including a "slim jim" in every envelope, so they will be able to look at Ron's positions there.

"Dear Mr. /Mrs. _________________,

My name is Mitch, and I am a volunteer writing to you in support of Congressman Ron Paul. I am not affiliated with his campaign, I'm just a regular guy who feels that Dr. Paul's message for the advancement of personal freedoms and protection of the Constitution is more than worth the time it will take to write this letter. Ron Paul is a 10th term Congressman running for President and I would like to invite you to join his supporters at the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames on Saturday, August 11th from 10-6 PM. Despite the lack of major media attention, Paul's unique and consistent message has taken the Internet by storm, as he leads all Republican candidates in official site visits, social network supporters, and video views, is attracting tens of thousands of loyal supporters, and now has more cash-on-hand than McCain.

If you're eager to learn more, I would recommend his website, ronpaul2008.com. If you believe in tax reform and protecting our Constitution, I believe that Congressman Paul is the only way to achieve those goals. To RSVP for the straw poll, go to his website and click the Iowa link at the top. There is a fund being raised for those who cannot afford straw poll tickets ($35). Please visit ronpaulstrawpoll.blogspot.com for details.

I hope you can join me in my support, and I am VERY thankful for the time you took to read my letter (and poor handwriting).

Sincerely,

Mitch Port

P.S. If you have any questions regarding, you may e-mail me at _______. I think Dr. Paul is the best candidate since the Founding Fathers. Maybe I can convince you of that :)"

It's short and to the point, it's well personalized as well. I don't have any suggestions other than make sure that your handwriting is legible.

The problem with the person who wrote the letter at the campaign is that they don't understand basic sales copy. You don't ask someone to come to the straw poll in the beginning. You use that as your call to action at the very END of the letter. I hope whoever wrote that doesn't write anything else for them because it's really bad in my opinion.

If you got a letter in the mail from someone at a car dealership and his second sentence was, please buy a $24,000 Camry from me! Would you be persuaded to care? Nope you would throw out the letter.

Edit: I am not saying your letter is bad Mport. I know you basically copied the general idea from the campaign letter. I just don't like the example the campaign gave us.

Here is what I would write. This is just using your letter, but I cut some things and moved it around. Rough copy of course.

I hope you can join me in my support. You are personally invited to join his supporters at the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames on Saturday, August 11th from 10-6 PM. I am VERY thankful that you took the time to read my letter (and poor handwriting). See you at the straw poll!

Don't tell people how much the straw poll costs. That's kind of weird in my opinion. If they are interested let them find out on their own. I fixed a few sentences that were run ons or just sounded weird.

I like how you structured your letter. I'm going to change to your format.

Another change I'm going to make is that I'm going to handwrite a lot less of it so that I can get more out.

I'm just going to handwrite everything on the envelope, their name in the letter, the date, my signature, and then one line.

I don't think any of the extra handwriting will make that much difference.

I agree with you and think everyone should skip writing the whole thing out. (Once again I don't agree with the campaign here) I can address 50+ letters an hour. A person handwriting the whole thing probably can't do more than 5-10 an hour. That's a huge difference.

The one thing I would change on the letter I rearranged is the info about RSVPing. I didn't see that in there. You want to put that here instead.

I am not so sure if I like the sentence about those who "cannot afford straw poll tickets". That makes it sound like they are really expensive. Yet I don't like having the cost on there either. I would probably get rid of that, but I understand it may be a website you have personally donated to or frequent.
