Ron Paul Got My Son Detention

I am a mother of four. What your son said was not out of line. He said more truth in just minutes than that teacher had been probably saying in weeks. I home school my childeren just for the simple fact that I don't want some stranger who lives off of the news stations words of corruption and malipulation. I am proud to hear that your son stood up for the truth. If every red necked american would just do the same this country would not be in the shape it is in today. Public schools and well most people don't beleave in freedom of speech unless it is out of their own mouths. Just because he is a minor doesn't make is freedoms any less important. Sounds to me like the teacher was having a power trip.

May I be the first to say "welcome to the boards?"

I believe it was, "Maybe you should quit if you can't keep up" that did the trick. If there's one thing semi-competent teachers can't stand... Of course, a good teacher would have come back with "Are you sure?" or something other than a flat denial of the kid's statement, especially since the teacher had reason to doubt his or her own information.

Anyway, hope your state continues to allow you to home school, and welcome to the forum!

so did you explain to the teacher or principle the teacher was wrong? If so how did that go?

LOL, I've been down that road before. They just sidestep the issue and tell you some BS as to why the teacher was saying that. In their eyes, the teacher is always right.

I hope you rewarded him for standing up and speaking the truth...kudos to you for raising a bright boy

The kid is still a jackass.

Dude the kid said RP is still in the race not "Ron Paul is still gonna win the race."
Your making yourself look like an idiot. I agree with you that it does not help the campaign for everyone to go around sayin we can still win! RP 2008! but yeah the kid stood up for what he believed in and a stated a fact so I commend him...

More fundamentally, it demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is not one of those teachers who takes the time and trouble (and is secure enough in themselves) to teach kids how to think. Rather this is one of those status-minded, needlessly authoritarian masters of regurgitation that make school so miserable--and America weaker annually.

Do you honestly believe that a schoolmaster (teacher) in say 1885 would have put up with such a smartass remark from a student without caning him/throwing him in detention until he was 30/belting him one 'cross his lip? I honestly don't believe that there ever has been such a teacher in any American school who wasn't a laughingstock to his peers and to his students.

Ron Paul didn't get the OP's son detention - his own smart mouth did. And that's one reason that I'd make a lousy teacher in today's public schools - I'd be thrown under the jail the first time one of my students made such a disrespectful comment to me and subsequently had to pick up his teeth after class.

Well, actually it was his cynical sarcastic mouth. But he still is my hero of the day.

In class, they were talking about the election and the teacher said there were 3 candidates left.

My son put his hand up and said "Ron Paul is still in the race."

The teacher said "No, he quit because he couldn't keep up."

To which my son said "No, he's definitely still in. Maybe you should quit if you can't keep up."

:D

Haha awsome :D
