Ron Paul campaign in Florida

I expect you to feel the same as those of us in states he is unlikely to do well in. That would be to appreciate that his campaign is being tactical and practical. Would you get more jazzed up over a decent 3rd place finish in FL or a win in two of the three states he mentioned? I have been saying all along to forget FL, get a headstart in NV, LA, ME, CO, MN, ND, etc. As the resources will go 10x further in regards to delegates.

I agree with what you said but we don't want a poor showing here...we don't want another 3% like in the 2008 primary. 3% here again and the MSM will start with the he's unelectable nonsense again.

It wont be 3%, you can best bet, Ron Paul super-PACS aren't going to forget Florida, it's a smart move.

If a RP SuperPAC suddenly runs into enough money to challenge in FL (unlikely), I'm sure the campaign will take a 2nd look.

Never know, I mean if he does great in NH and great in SC and Frothy and the Grinch drop out. It's worth being somewhat optimistic.

When is the Florida primary? What day?

Jan 31st

As much as I hate to say it, I don't think money spent here would be well spent. This state killed the Ghoul. I have seen the occasional RP bumper stickers though. Each time I see someone with a Obama 2012 sticker, I make sure to get a good look at them and stare at them as if they have a third eye or something. There is just too much ground to cover here, and with limited resources, it just doesn't make sense. It's not like Ron has companies spring up for 2 days to dump a couple million dollars into a PAC, and then disappear, like others do.

So he at least lets them know he cares, he just isn't spending major money.

Looks like he sent it to those who get absentee ballots, at least.

Looks like Jesse Benton may have been misquoted. He's saying they're focusing on states with caucuses and primaries in Feb. He's not worried with March states just yet. Would also make sense for Politico to try and smear the campaign.

It all depends on what happens in NH and SC. Strong showings (pulling a First place) there they might want to take momentum into Florida. Other than that I understand what they are trying to accomplish. There is a SuperPac in Florida called Ron Paul Volunteers that probably will put up some TV ads so there likely wont be a total black out on the airwaves of RP. Maybe Santa Rita PAC might get into it as well as RevPac.

I fear the big media will rip Ron Paul to shreds over this....When the MSM uses these words against Mr. Benton in ways he doesn't like - if Ron Paul isn't contesting Florida he shouldn't be in the Florida debates, Doesn't the Paul campaign know you run to be President of all 50 states?, etc. don't be surprised.

Even if this was your strategy, stating it publicly is foolish, as Romney and RNC will not spend money on direct mail attacking him now *sigh*

Possibly, but we have the right to at least shoot back, "Well, Jon Huntsman publicly declared that he wouldn't be campaigning in Iowa, he ended up getting less than 1% of the votes there, and yet he was invited to the last debate in Iowa."

I'm still thinking it was a misquote. And the campaign is focusing only on states with primaries in Feb. And with Florida in March, they aren't thinking that far ahead yet.

Smart move.

inb4 the guy who always bitches about them ignoring Florida comes in here and bitches about them ignoring Florida.

like i said...

It doesn't take 9 million to run 1 TV ad in Florida in 9/10 major areas. It also doesn't take 9 million to open a few campaign offices in those same areas. Nor does it take 9 million to be responsive to the media here, or put on some fundraising rallies.

And bluesec, don't antagonize me.

Read, what I posted, this is a quote that is being severely butchered by Politico. I don't believe for a minute RP is skipping Florida, they want to get to the Feb Caucus and Primary states first. Since Florida is in March, it would make no sense for them to give away their strategy just yet.
