Romney to select Paul Ryan for VP slot

Isn't it illegal for him to pick a running mate before he has been Nominated?

Dunno. But unless they really cheat on multiple states Ron should have 5 and we should be able to nominate him from the floor. As a presidential nominee, and as a VP nominee.

I like the idea of Ron having two speeches and you know well that will be the most interesting part of the convention.

Biggest winner tonight is Rand Paul. They keep making it easier and easier. The entire GOP electorate is being radicalized slowly but surely with this bait and switch nonsense.

Yea well, not voting will have the same effect.

Not really. What they should do is put none of the above on the ballot, and if that wins, the other candidates would be disqualified. That way they couldn't give us crappy candidates year after year.

I'm ready to jump aboard the Obama train just to shut down these GOP moderates. Anyone else with me?

I live in a D State, so I'll be voting third party(Not that Johnson seems totally better.) But I hope Obama's reelected. We've had more success getting our people into office and redefining the GOP, even if only a little, with a democrat in office. The second we get a squishy moderate like Romney in there, the party will fall in line behind him. Worse, you'll get all the so called "conservatives" backing him, leaving the media to paint Romney as conservative and the only opposition to him as liberal. IMO it would be a disaster for us in spreading Paul's ideals and influencing the GOP.

Paul Ryan!!!!, the same paul Ryan that will cut out food stamps and other welfare programs instantly?!, Oiy. where does that leave the 100 million+ that are out of work with America that has no factory base or work to be had?.

Romney could have chosen more wisely.

i sense a flame war on the horizon.

Could be good or bad for us. If Romney loses as expected then it should diminish the stature of Paul Ryan so that's just one less guy to worry about in 2016 but if Romney wins then Paul Ryan would be the chosen one in 2020.

Thats the biggest problem you have - he would slash welfare?

unfortunately just about any way you look at it this will boost Ryan's appeal for '16. Hopefully Rand is powerful enough to be on the same level as Ryan come '16.

that while expanding the empire is an issue to me, too, only I was thinking of the social security cuts etc that people had paid in for. In the end even Ron might (would, likely) have had to restructure medicare but he was going to cut everything else first and try to grow the economy to carry it as much as he could, as a priority. And same for the welfare stuff being block granted.

In other words, he looked at it like a normal person and said 'what is most important to the people', and 'policing the world' wasn't above Social Security for those who have paid in. Put like that, I think the overwhelming majority of Americans would agree with him. Unfortunately, the campaign never found the way TO put it like that...

But Romney and Ryan both have those warped priorities. I think he is picking Ryan for austerity cuts to the safety net while not decreasing anything their backers want, so it will be blamed on him, and if it is overwhelmingly unpopular they can dump Ryan in 2016 and pin it on him. I think the banker backers want less spending but special interests and not the people have a place at the table to say where those cuts should be.

I don't think that former VP picks fare especially well as candidates, do they?
