Never mind whether his repentance is big enough or soon enough. Even if it was too little too late (and, honestly, that call will be made above our pay grade), do we do the babies of Gaza more good by discrediting Kirk over his past support? Or do we do them more good winning his supporters over to the view that Israel robbed them of his presence in their lives because he saw this light and changed his mind?
I certainly don't judge him on where he was as a Christian. I was a fukin' mess at 31 and wasn't even calling myself Christian. Just a book nerd.
But he did say he wanted to be remembered for his faith. If he indeed was having a moment, and reaching out to people, switching sides...whatever BECAUSE of his faith, then I suppose this is worth knowing.
But for the purpose of "
winning his supporters over to the view that Israel robbed them of his presence in their lives because he saw this light and changed his mind"....this is a pretty big list of "
ifs" and even if it is proven, it makes him a martyr at best. I don't know that it is going to "honor his faith" in the sense of making people come to Christ.
His supporters seem to want to bathe in his blood in order to start a war with the left.
And I don't know that we can do the men, women, and children in Gaza any good by doing anything at this point. Giving them a voice if we can I think is worth it. Sadly, I don't see that Charlie went very far in that regard. Simply questioning Netanyahu giving a "stand down" order is actually a quite neutral position. Maybe to Israel it isn't, but to me, you're basically saying, "Well, Hamas and Palestine are evil incarnate, but maybe Israel wanted the war to happen?"
Anyway, like I said, the guy was young. Don't think there's much to this story other than the political football he's become in "the war on the left". While I don't think trying to finger Israel for this honors his faith, unless indirectly via more facts and investigation, I do think pointing out to his supporters that "a war on the left" isn't Christian does, and if he had real faith, he wouldn't support this retarded shit.
