Rick Perry shoots an innocent coyote

I usually use bird shot or a machete for snake repellent , unless I have a hoe or shovel handy ( I have been attacked a couple of times in / around the garden when I did , gratefully have one of those implements . )

Exactly. Hollow points are for large mammals. Although, admittedly, a .380 is a bit underpowered for humans.

Maybe he should go with one of those 5 shot .410 revolvers . Gander Mountain has them on sale this week for $400 after rebate :)

I bought some .410 ammo recently ( Remington ? ) loaded with buck & discs , basically designed for large animals , but would be very effective on snakes & coyotes . I used 12 ga #4's on foxes when I was a kid .

Who cares.

People who oppose Perry as President. But this is not a good issue,,,
UNLESS,,
#1. You can prove that this did not happen or was a manufactured media event.
#2. you can tie it to some negative gun rights action by Perry. showing him to be a hypocrite.

There is plenty of legitimate issues to show him as ,, Not Conservative, Not Republican, Not Honest, Not Good.
;)

I support his actions.

Coyotes are overpopulated in most of the USA. They have one of the highest incidence of transferable diseases including Rabies, Mange, Distemper and several others of any wild animal in North America. They are aggressive and pose a real threat. A man has a right to defend himself, his property, and his loved ones from harm. His dog qualifies as both property and a loved one.

I handle nuisance wildlife for a living. Don't take chances with coyotes. They can and do make off with pets and toddlers regularly.

Coyote attacks on humans are very rare, and there's only one fatal attack on record. Also, a toddler has a much bigger chance of being killed by a pet dog than a coyote. But we've 'em out here, no way will I let my cats out. I'm really amazed that Sofia is actually criticizing a guy for carrying a weapon and using it to defend himself. That's incredibly hypocritical coming from this wing of the GOP.

Agreed. No issue here. But it is good to be aware of how the propaganda machine works. And this is propaganda. It was released for a reason.

Photos of Dubya clearing brush on the farm in his workin' duds aren't evidence of any wrongdoing. But they ARE carefully selected to manipulate public impressions. And impressions are VERY powerful.

It is always a good thing to be aware of how public impressions are being manipulated.

Coyotes are overpopulated. Why are they overpopulated? Because we displaced wolves and kicked them out most of America. Wolves hunt coyotes and compete for the same food source. But humans would prefer to live around overpopulated Coyotes than have wolves running around, for obvious reasons. :P

When Coyotes overpopulate they tend to go in to cities and start hunting cats & dogs. There was a case here, a year ago, where a coyote killed several pet dogs in Boston. That's right.. Boston. A major city. That's why we have to keep their numbers down.

anybody who's familiar with coyotes, know if the following is true? Sounds unbelievable if you ask me:

During pursuit, a coyote may reach speeds up to 43 mph (69 km/h),[18] and can jump a distance of over 13 ft (4 m).[3]

Rick Perry , Texas campaign chairman of Madhoff , er .. Al Gore , 1988. Enough said .

I don't doubt it. They can't sustain those speeds, but they're lightning fast over shirt distances. They have to be to catch rodents and such. I've never thought of them as jumpers though...

43 mph??? That doesn't make sense. I heard it was 30 mph. 43 sounds way too fast.

By the way, Coyotes are known to eat babies and toddlers:

No, the video clearly says that attacks on humans of all sizes are extremely rare. And there's only one documented human death by coyote, ever. They're wild animals, which means they're unpredictable and of course they will bite, but when people don't feed them they're normally quite timid and virtually invisible to humans. It's alarmist bullshit to pretend they're viscous and aggressive, when they're usually not. Again, a toddler or child has a much greater danger of being killed and/or mauled by a family pet.

We've got a huge pack of them around here. When they start chattering at night, it is the spookiest sound I have ever heard. And yet none of the neighbors that I've asked have ever actually seen one.

Coyotes are lightening fast. We live in a very rural area and there are packs of 15 or more that hunt at night on our property since we have an abundance of cottontails. We also have horses, dogs, cats, and chickens, and the coyotes are definitely a nuisance. We usually shoot them when they are too close to the house or barn. They yip at all hours of the night too.

Ask Adam T and RonPaulHawaii about the coyotes at our house. LOL!

I have a bunch around here. Nearby,, but only in the yard once. i chased then off with my wife's shotgun (the one I was arrested over) and they have not been back in the yard.
I wish I had a gun. Considering a crossbow. I'll make me a Coyote Coat.
