anybody who's familiar with coyotes, know if the following is true? Sounds unbelievable if you ask me:
Yeah , about the same as a fox or African wild dog , probably 40 mph .

Some of the posts in this thread are hilarious.
I have a bunch around here. Nearby,, but only in the yard once. i chased then off with my wife's shotgun (the one I was arrested over) and they have not been back in the yard.
I wish I had a gun. Considering a crossbow. I'll make me a Coyote Coat.
I am a wildlife biologist and professional wildlife pest operator. Coyotes can reach speeds of up to 43mph and sustain them for about 15 minutes, though they can cruise steadily along at 30mph for hours. All canines have a natural ability to super oxidize their blood for sustained long distance running. This ability allows them to run down prey much stronger or faster than themselves by wearing the prey out over a chase that may last days.
No, the video clearly says that attacks on humans of all sizes are extremely rare. And there's only one documented human death by coyote, ever. They're wild animals, which means they're unpredictable and of course they will bite, but when people don't feed them they're normally quite timid and virtually invisible to humans. It's alarmist bullshit to pretend they're viscous and aggressive, when they're usually not. Again, a toddler or child has a much greater danger of being killed and/or mauled by a family pet.
We've got a huge pack of them around here. When they start chattering at night, it is the spookiest sound I have ever heard. And yet none of the neighbors that I've asked have ever actually seen one.
Lots of coyotes around my place. I see them all the time, including in my yard. I much prefer coyotes to rabbits and pack rats, so I am happy to have them. And I like the spooky calling at night. Although the coyotes would eat my chickens in a heartbeat it has been the bobcats that have been most successful in that endeavor. I have a hard time imagining a non-rabid coyote attacking a full-grown human or his dog.
