In 2014 Sheriff Brad Rogers will be up for re-election. He won the position of Sheriff in 2010 and quickly became known for his Constitutional approach to government. In late 2011 he faced off against the FDA, and threatened to arrest agents if they continued to search a local Amish farm without warrant. He is on the board of the Constitutional Sheriff's and Peace Officers Association, and has held training on the Constitution for his officers. Recently he has announced that he will not enforce the new unconstitutional gun "laws." I started a new official facebook page for the campaign, and it could use a few "likes."

Thanks! Benjamin Rogers, Brad Rogers for Sheriff, Social Media Director.

Yes, here is his statement: "The US Constitution, Article I, Section 8, is clear what the Federal government should concern themselves in our nation. Gun control is not one of them. The issue of any gun laws should be the individual states. However, in that endeavor, the states are limited by their own constitutions. For example, The Indiana Constitution has a clear message in Article I, Section 32: “The people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the State.” As a Sheriff who upholds his Oath of Office to support and defend the US and Indiana Constitutions, I will not be a part of enforcing any federal law or presidential order that is contrary to those Constitutions. As such, there are concerns from citizens of this county that there may be a gun confiscation, of which will not occur in this county while I am Sheriff. As for those seeking gun permits, the increased demand for gun permits are absolutely not a concern for this Sheriff. The more people who are carrying firearms for legal purposes, the more polite our society will be. I do encourage firearm owners to have the ability to keep firearms secure from children and burglars, and to receive appropriate training from civilian firearms trainers."

CNN just posted the clip of Sheriff Rogers vs. their "Legal Analyst".

They didn't give the Sheriff a chance to respond to their "expert", so here is the response he posted on facebook later:
"I did not get a chance to respond with the "round I had chambered" at that point. That is, he threw out the Supremacy Clause and how that trumps State and Local laws. Wrong! The Supremacy clause is only supreme when the laws made are pursuant to the Constitution and not contrary to it.

I went to go "like" his post on his FB account, but it's not showing up for me on his page. I've seen this kind of thing happen before, where some things don't show up.

edit: I did "Like" his page earlier though

My bad, that was on his personal. The response is now on his page, as is the CNN interview clip.

Thanks, I went there and liked his comment and link.

Jeff Toobin, on the otherhand, talked garbage and falsehoods. We need to spread the real meaning of the Supremacy Clause around, real good.

Thanks! I hope to write a short article soon giving the real meaning of the Supremacy Clause.

I think some people misunderstand what "any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding." means.

It means the same as "any Thing in the Constitution of any State or Laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding." The U.S. Constitution within itself is refered to as "This Constitution", as in the start of that clause, "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States ...".

The very important thing to notice here is the Elkhart County is not some little podunk county in IN farm country. It is actually right near South Bend with a population near 200k.

Other than the Facebook page, does anyone know if Sheriff Rogers has a campaign web site? It sounds like he's worthy of some support.

We had one back in 2010 and we can make it public again if need be closer to 2014. At the moment it appears that there won't be a challenger and if there is one they usually aren't too large of an electoral threat.
