I would have preferred "Do you know what this is?" A more straightforward approach to the same question would have been more effective.

But it was still awesome. 7.

I gave it a 1.

Ron Paul and McCain may as well have been speaking French because only 0.1% of viewers could understand what was being said.

That question was as valuable as dead air space.

Agreed. When he said it was for McCain I was so excited to hear the "100 Years war" question..... and then it never came :(

Argh...
From the moment Ron Paul asked the question, I knew it was meant to trap McCain into showing his inadequacy on economic issues. McCain DID look like an idiot to us, but that's only because we know that Paul is an expert on economics, and we know he was calling out McCain for his ignorance (and yes, I did laugh...;)). Unfortunately, as others have said, Paul did not properly frame it as an attack, explain its relevance or importance to the American people, or follow up on it to reinforce the fact that McCain didn't know how to answer. :( This in my opinion was the weakest part of Paul's performance tonight - even if he asked the same thing, he could have made it far more effective than it was. If the question was for the establishment, media, and wall street, as someone has suggested, then it was a wasted question, because we all know that those institutions will not change their opinion of Ron Paul no matter what, and being as they don't really care where America is headed, it won't detract from their support of McCain, either. Overall, I'd give this a 4...we know what Paul was going for, but he blew the opportunity to make it much more effective and obvious.

i said 1- cuz it sucked- it was cheeky.

he should have attacked the leader- romney
for ex. he should have exposed romney's liberalism- asked him what exactly would he cut in spending.

shame on paul's debate coach.

The President's Working Group on Markets or as it is affectionatly known "The Plung Protection Team" was put in place after the crash in 1987. It is completly secret so nobody knows exactly what is going on but it has the Secretary of the Tresury, SEC, and Federal Reserve. They are the reason there was a 600 point spead in the Dow a few days ago. When things look really bad they take a few hundred Billion and buy a bunch of securities to stop the drop. This forces the shorts to cover and makes the market bounce back. It also completly distorts the market setting it up for even more punishment. Of course they buy those stocks with money printed from the Fed.

This is what we all need to drive home tomorrow when the subject comes up. Inform yourself first, and then inform others instead of talking about how dumb they are. This can lead into a discussion about the house of cards this country has built up for itself over the decades.

the question itself was obviously weak but the response it got from mccain (obvious ignorance) was priceless.

YOUTUBE! :)

WHAT WAS THE QUESTION????? I was on duty at the firestation and didn't see the debate.

So paul never mentioned the PPT or the plunge protection team by name. He just said "the presidents working group on financial markets"

People dont know what that is, and they will not make the connection to the PPT.

He should have been more specific.

The question was, "This is an economic question that I wanted to ask, it has something to do with the presidents group on financial markets, i'd like to know what your opinion is of this and uh whether you would keep it in place and what their role would be if you or would you get rid of this group and if ah you kept the group um would you um make sure we would see some sunlight an and know what they are doing and how they are being involved in our markets"

It was a bad question, I didnt understand it and that means the average joe didnt either. It doesn't matter that McCain didn't look like he knew what he was talking about because everyone else will sympathize with him.

How bout asking "If you got the nomination, is there any way that you would win the general election after making statements that we should be in Iraq for 100 years."

I think this debate overall was his worst tbh. Part of it was because he got zero time and when he did get time he stuttered and seem to mangle his thoughts. The outright unbalance of time was ridiculous.

It was obvious that McCain didn't know what RP was talking about. But I don't know if it was obvious to the average person.

He could have done a better job showing that McCain is economically illiterate. Maybe something like, "How do you plan to pay for 700 military bases in 130 countries AND cut taxes without bankrupting the country?"

Honestly, I think it's moot anyway. By the time the next president takes office, we'll be in a depression.

Would you get rid of the Bozos currently advising President Bush on financial markets and if not, would you make sure they would behave in the asylum?

+1

Agreed, this is was a missed opportunity because Paul didn't articulate and phrase his question so that the average person had any idea what he was talking about. So despite McCain's rambling response, the question and the effect of the nonsensical answer was irrelevant to most people watching.

And to those that say that this was purposely meant for the media and the establishment, dude pleez! You really think the media, least of all the establishment, is gonna give RP any credit or airtime over this!? The point of debates is to win votes through your performance and you can not do that if the vast majority of voters watching have no clue what you are talking about.

he missed a huge opportunity to say "You have publicly stated that you wouldn't mind if we were in Iraq for 100 years. How do you plan on staying fiscally responsible while paying trillions of dollars for such an operation?
