Rand's Facebook Under Assault

You act as if you know that there has been some kind of deal made and you do not.

Based on what Wead and Benton has stated publicly over the last few months. Then factor in Carole's relationship with Ann Romney and how close the campaigns are in terms of affinity for one another. Also, factor in the closed door meeting between Rand and the Romney campaign. I suspect something was arranged. They (the Romney folks) want to avoid an embarrassing situation at Tampa as well as keep their right flank secure from attacks going forward. That entails making a deal with the Pauls. Common sense.

its an issue that has many people upset. to be part of a party organization is to be loyal
and respond when there is the call for unity. there has been that consensus and that call.
when ron paul ran as a Libertarian in 1988 he felt freer to be himself, but when he returned
to the GOP he chose to be loyal to the GOP. rand is now backing the party standard bearer
because his other options include voting for gary johnson quietly or not voting at all. he is
not trying to make barack obama's re-election any easier. the fall campaign is about to be.

I was kinda converted to Stefan Molenuex approach to politics. Have and build organization. Don't overly invest your self because most likely you will not win without some herculean effort. There is not enough of us yet for that effort. I respect people who are mingling with GOP and going to the convention. However I am not so Rand's decision to endorse Romney does not effect me. If I were involved and going to to Tampa I would know the reality, which is we do not have the majority to nominate RP over Romney.

He didn't do anything? With all due respect, I believe you need to reevaluate the situation. I am/was a HUGE Rand Paul fan, but after this bullshit, I don't know how and what to feel towards him. Listen, it would be one thing to back Romney if/once Romney secures the nomination. It's another to do so when all of Ron Paul supporters have donated so much money and time. Furthermore, people are STILL working their asses off to rack up delegates. People are taking off of work and spending money on hotels and possibly missing time with their family to go to Tampa in support Dr. Paul. What did Rand do? SLAPPED THEM ALL OF THE EFFING FACE. What he did last night really effing pissed me off and like I said earlier, I was more of a fan of Rand as a politician and potential president than Ron. I am so disappointed and disgusted with what he did that I am currently reevaluating my feelings toward him. As of right now, he is a sell out. Plain and effing simple. But again, I am open minded enough to be patient and see what really happened here. All I ask you all to think about is what Rand and Ron's positions are...and I am talking about KEY positions like NDAA, the Fed, government spending, civil liberties, etc and look to see if Romney lines up at all with any.

It's time to take the blinders off and see things for what they (potentially) are...and that is that Rand sold out.

I will wait and see. But as of now, he sold out.

I couldn't agree more. I like Rands positions but I don't see why he would publicly endorse him. Not every Senator/Congressmen has to endorse anyone. He should have endorsed no one. Romney, really? This is a political game and the reason I always hated politics. What does that make us? Huh? "A bunch of crazies that can't even see the light". "Even Ron Pauls son realizes he can't win and endorses the establishment". How can this movement be against the "Staus quo" (as Ron Paul always says) when they endorse the epitome of the "Status quo". I'm with you this is a slap in the face to everyone who has busted their asses to get to the conventions and win this from the inside out.

But think for a second. Rand is a very aware of the delicate delegate situation heading into Tampa. You think he didn't consult with his father or his father's people before making this announcement? I find that hard to believe. I suspect he had Ron's blessing and this preemptive disarming of the delegate controversy is part of the deal the Paul camp brokered with the Romney people. I do agree with you that the Paul campaign should be more communicative to their loyal supporters about their strategy.

I have a hard time excepting this. I don't see any good coming from this from a delegate standpoint. This pretty much ruins the convention. The campaign built this up on the take it from the inside at the convention strategy and then they come out and say never mind we've decided to fall in line. I don't see how this improves morale of the delegates on the floor in Tampa.

I could live with something like "Rand, you disappointed me, but I will reserve judgement until I get all facts." There are few of those but there are many which are incredibly disparaging and insulting. Some of them equated Rand with a murderer. Another said he should be disowned and should just hang himself. I really hope I don't see some of these folks at one of the events because I will get in their face.

I agree there isn o reason to say disgusting things...but he already showed us what we need to see...we don't need to reserve any judgement. He's done for me. And relax tuffguy, you don't uphold libertarian principles getting in people's faces.

He announced his support for Romney on the Sean Hannity show broadcasting on Fox News???????????

That's what I said (yelled I think) over and over again out loud. Really ugly to see their smug faces too I am sure, I couldn't bear to watch. We still have an obligation to ourselves and our dignity to act like adults though, even on fakebook.

Just found out about this endorsement on Ben Swann's facebook page, I guess I'm a little late.

So do we have an anti-war candidate for 2016? It get's kind of frustrating when now the last guy who might have even been slightly sensible when it comes to foreign policy just endorsed one of the two pro-war candidates.

No, not really.

Most of those nasty comments are probably plants and trolls anyway just to make us look bad.

Rand is just playing sneaky I think, I dont think he deep down has that much love for the neo-cons, I think he is just trying out a different strategy than his father used during his political career, he is not going against the grain as much as his father since he probably views it as a little bit ineffective so he pays lip service to the establishment sometimes in order to not become a total outcast like Ron was for much of his political career.

Whether he will be as awesome as his father remains to be seen, they are tough shoes to fill that is for sure, I am still a long way from disliking Rand, he still seems like an awesome guy to have in congress, I loved the way he flamed those bureaucrats during the hearing about toilet sizes, you could just see the fear in the eyes of that female bureaucrat when he started talking. :D

100% agree. You need the moderately play the game to have a chance to win.

LOL. I loved this facebook comment: To all of the Short Sighted FOOLS wanting to Hang Rand Paul for endorsing Romney ... Get a Brain ... The Path to reach a Mountain Top sometimes passes through a Swamp!

Well, I sympathize with your situation, but I am not entirely surprised. I think I stopped sending them money after South Carolina. There was no viable path to the nomination after that, though Ron did advance the ball forward just like he did in 2007.
QUOTE]

And there it is for me, in football terms. :) Ron Paul winning the Presidency was at the beginning and is now the hail mary of all hail mary plays. Ron Paul does not play for the hail mary, he plays a game of field position. And in that game he's gained more than has been gained by anyone in recent (or even mid-term) memory.

Maybe Rand fumbled the ball, maybe it's a Statue of Liberty play, but I suspect when all is said and done it'll gain us 5 yards of field position.

Continuing my overused football analogy, Ron Paul may not even be ON the field playing, he's the General Manager (or maybe scout)

lol. I keep using and thinking in terms of football analogies also and I haven't watched football for a couple decades. I don't want to be THAT player who quit the team only to be kicking my own ass because they won the superbowl the next season.

The comments on this thread remind me of comments that would be a dog forum thread titled "police shoot and kill dogs on their own property". We see people defending the dogs on their own property and we see the people/police defending the killings.

This has become the normal delphi technique type circular argument to cope with insanity .. and now on the RPF. Thanks Rand.

You think he didn't consult with his father or his father's people before making this announcement?

Considering how Ron is, it's 99% sure he told Rand to do whatever he decided to do. Ron didn't "give his blessing".
