Rand Paul under fire from black leaders for slavery remarks

Where did he say American Slavery?

Given that we're American - it would make sense. Perhaps he should clarify and say he was actually referring to slavery under the Roman Empire

I looked up the word slavery in the dictionary and found this.

slav·er·y
   [sley-vuh-ree, sleyv-ree] Show IPA
–noun
1.
the condition of a slave; bondage.
2.
the keeping of slaves as a practice or institution.
3.
a state of subjection like that of a slave: He was kept in slavery by drugs.

You don't need to look up slavery in the dictionary. Everyone knows what it means.

No one is forcing you to work. Yes, in a sense the income tax can be compared to slavery. To not see the huge differences though is tone-deaf in the extreme.

that is like saying no one is forcing me to live, i can choose to not to eat.
how about a big fuck you for the most ignorant post of the night.

Come on, people. Do your research. There is such a thing called WAGE SLAVERY. Rand Paul is right. And I'm kinda glad the Left is attacking him over this. It'll only make him more popular with the Right.

neg rep for the completely uncalled for rudeness. I am not defending the income tax- I hate it as much as everyone else here. It is factually true that your are not legally required to earn taxable income, and it is in fact possible (though not very practical) for most people to survive doing so. This is not the same to being literally chained up and beaten if you refused to work. Moreover, whatever principled arguments you can make in comparing the income tax slavery get completely lost in the stupidity of not also conceding the massive factual differences between 1850s chattel slavery and the modern income tax. You can make a great argument along the lines of "You should be able to keep the fruits of your labor. Isn't the principle of the income tax like slavery?", but you will deservedly get no where by trying to defend the assertion that "The income tax is just as bad as chattel slavery."

Zoning laws are bad, but conscription is worse. Monopoly postal service is bad, but the war in Iraq is worse. The income tax is bad, BUT SLAVERY WAS MUCH WORSE. No one will ever take you seriously if you try to dispute that.

Ofcourse they're pissed. They're the ones reaping the benefits of slavery this time around. If anyone attacks their sacred institution of theft and welfare, they get pissed.

I love Rand Paul now that he's in the Senate. He doesn't hold back and isn't afraid of calling people out or being called out.

Motherfucker got balls.

Rand did mess up by using the "slavery" word I think. You can make the point without jumping straight to slavery. It just triggets this emotional response and turns off more people. The basic point can still be very effective against the "right to health care" argument, but just stick to language like "force" and "coerce"

I know we all get the point being made by comparing some aspect of statism to slavery. On occasion it can work. But more often its just bad tactics.

Sorry, he didn't mess up using the slavery word. And those who are attacking him should recognize slavery when they see it and attack it, not the messenger for pointing it out.

In fact, what are these so called "leaders" and authorities on slavery doing defending slavery!

Was going to post that. 'involuntary servitude' would have been better words for Rand to use.

Euphemisms and political correct terminology simply dilutes the point. The institution of government, that is to say, systematically stealing the fruits of another persons labor, is slavery. If even one person objects to his government 'owning' his body and his production than you have met the criteria of enslavement.

I think this truth is one of the most potent truths one can profess to help bring light to the cause of liberty.

Taxation is theft and government monopoly is slavery.
