Rand dropped in the polls, sharply, a significant time before Trump announced. I'm not sure you consistently paid attention to the polls. Maybe only positive polls were posted here.

How can I fight for Rand when he made some questionable decisions and now is off message? This is his hole that he dug. I gave him money. Maybe I'll help the campaign locally but I am far from enthused. I am more infuriated because the opportunity was just laying there.

You are missing the point too. It isn't about "bringing Trump down". Trump's supporters don't really care about Trump in the first place so you can't "bring him down". It is all about fashioning an appealing message. Rand had one in 2010. He had one the first few years of his Senate term. He doesn't have one now, neither do any of the other Republicans, and that is why Trump is getting so much support. They support Trump because they hate you. The only way to "bring Trump down" is to make them like you.

It looks like the campaign has decided that Trump has taken away the anti-establishment vote from Rand, and they want it back.
Has Trump ever mentioned the Constitution? He would probably have less respect for limitations on government power than Chris "The Bill of Rights is null and void" Christie.

If Rand was posting on the forum right now, it's possible he would be more on the side of open borders and free immigration, as are multiple factions of libertarians, without pandering to the US Chamber.

Even with the welfare state in place? Even Ron doesn't believe that. Open borders without a regulatory state in place is far more feasible than open borders in Extortion USA. You don't defeat Extortion USA by adding more dependents.

How is he off message? He talked about the economy, the Constitution, and the corruption. He talked about borrowing money from China and giving it to nations that hate us. Are you just saying he's off message because you want him to kiss Trump's ass as much as you do?
What opportunity is just lying there? The opportunity to convince some three quarters of the nation that you can't be trusted with the presidency? The opportunity to lose flamboyantly, but in any case, lose?
See, now, I remember when you were smitten with Cruz and Rubio. Rand Paul gave them the chance to take a huge bite out of the welfare state just a short time back, and give the money to the Military Industrial Complex, and they wouldn't do it. They were too set on driving up the debt. So, we ask again, why are you harping on Rand Paul? Isn't that kind of like blaming the fact that the house is flooded on the plumber because the plumber didn't succeed in talking you into fixing the screwed up floor drain?

Are you really so allergic to principle that this horse race rhetoric can completely dominate you? Even to the point that you're ready to let the United States of America go down in flames just to satisfy your pique? Even though the damned horses haven't even reached the quarter mile post yet, and no one who was in the lead at this stage has ever won the race ever?

The country is broke, so we do not need to borrow money from China to give to Saudi Arabia. You can easily segue the very same concern to illegal immigration. The country is hopelessly broke, so we do not need to load up our service & security net with foreigners. Our prime concern is domestic citizens. This is simple economics. Jesus Christ. You don't have to be a bombastic Donald Trump to be resolute on the issue.
