Rand Paul to Propose Moratorium on Foreign Nationals at U.S. Flight Schools

Isn't this similar to Ron's proposal that student VISA's should be banned for any country that "supports terrorism?"

PAUL URGES RESTRICTIONS ON STUDENT VISAS IN HOMELAND DEFENSE BILL

Washington, DC- Congressman Ron Paul wants Congress to deny student visas to individuals from countries that sponsor terrorism, and he favors similar restrictions on diversity visa programs for the same countries. The current list of terror-sponsoring states includes Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. Paul will work to incorporate these needed changes in our visa rules when Congress considers a homeland security bill this summer.

"Common sense dictates that we should not be handing out new visas to residents of countries that don’t cooperate with our State department in fighting terrorism," Paul stated. "Most of the criminals who carried out the September 11 attacks entered the country using student visas, so we hardly should continue to open our doors to students from places like Iraq. If we are serious about conducting a war on terrorism, we cannot simultaneously give aid and comfort to our enemies, including the aid and comfort of living in the United States."

Paul sits on the House International Relations committee, which has jurisdiction over new visa rules in the Homeland Security Act. Paul want to ensure that any homeland security legislation focuses on terrorists and possible terrorists themselves, rather than innocent American citizens.

"We need to draw a bright line between American citizens and noncitizen residents or visitors," Paul continued. "We don’t need to sacrifice civil liberties to strengthen our defenses against terrorism. First and foremost, we must take control of our borders and prevent potential terrorists from entering the country. We also must do a better job of keeping track of those individuals we do allow to enter. Visas should not serve as a revolving door that allows our worst enemies to live among us."

Stopping funding Isarel would make MUCH more sense.

Hundreds of small flight schools will go out of business. The US is a great place for flight training.

I am very disapoint.

Watch Canada totally take up the slack.
Rand did propose cutting all foreign aid to israel in his budget propsal, jeez.

I never was that crazy about that idea. But at least it was narrowly tailored and it didn't put an extra regulatory burden on private business. Someone comes in for flight lessons and you have to check his immigration status?

Rand isn't proposing extra regulatory burdens on private businesses.

Recently, a Government Accountability Office investigation at a Boston-area flight school revealed that 25 flight students had been approved by the TSA to get training even though they were in the country illegally.

It seems like it's the TSA's job to approve flight students.

Personally, I would have temporarily shut down all visas from the countries from whom the bombers were citizens.

There. No problem with dictating to businesses.

That's still dictating to businesses. Schools aren't allowed to admit foreign students without visas, and get punished if they do. Businesses aren't allowed to hire employees who are in the country illegally, and get punished if they do. I'm for changing all of those laws so that no businesses are required to pay any attention to anyone's immigration status. But then, without those means of enforcing our immigration laws, it wouldn't really matter who did and didn't get visas.

I would not put the onus on the businesses. I think that is wrong and dangerous too.

Fact: We were attacked on 9-11 by foreign nationals.
Not just foreign nationals...Saudi Nationals

And these foreign nationals were trained to fly in America.

Under the full knowledge of both the FBI and the CIA

Personally, I would have temporarily shut down all visas from the countries from whom the bombers were citizens.

Instead, Bush sat there for 7 minutes with his upside down My Pet Goat book and then one of his first orders were to get the Saudi royal family and the rest of the Carlyle Group out of the country in complete secrecy before anyone knew they were here.

So..... They will just get their training in another country before coming to this one? What would this solve? Arm the pilots. There is your common sense solution.

Remember, this quote is from Ron Paul, not Rand Paul. So is Ron going to get the "neo-con" label as well?

Saudi Arabia? The most oppressive regime in the middle east and one of our favorite puppets? :toady:

After that, we can send the foreign nationals to fight in Syria, since now the United States government is supporting al-Qaeda terrorists against the Syrian government.

See? Rand is coming up with great solutions to America's self-created problems.

No sanctions against Saudi Arabia. No threats. No nothing.

Of course not, the US government works with Saudi Arabia and Qatar to spread terrorism in Syria.

As long as it is over there, and not over here, it works out just well.

No, because neo-cons want to aid countries like Saudi Arabia that sponsor terrorism. The American government is very talented in both fighting and supporting terrorism. Recently Pakistan has been re-opening the NATO supply lines. This puts millions of dollars in the hands of Taliban. How? Do your own research on this.

The Americans fought the terrorists over in Iraq, and now supports those very same terrorists (with help from Saudi Arabia and Qatar) and their hateful ideology in Syria, Libya and Iran.

Due to massive propaganda, Americans are stupid enough to believe that the Christian-killing terrorists in Syria are "freedom" fighters, and are also stupid enough to believe that Iran is sponsoring terrorism, when it is actually mainly Saudi Arabia that's behind terrorism.

US, Israel and then Saudi Arabia are the biggest terrorist nations on this planet.

You have been reported to DHS. the men in blue helmets will be there soon to put you on your train to fema camp.

now some sorry ass agent sitting in a large smelly room with a bunch of other sorry ass agents who have been glued to their computer screens for the last 12 hours while their power tripping boss looks down on them through a one way mirror to make sure they aren't taking a break will have to read this whole post trying to figure out if I'm the next Terry McVeigh...lol

the lessor known brother?

It makes perfect sense to me. These are the things that should have been done right after 9-11, rather than setting up a surveillance state in the U.S.
Fine, Rand can propose a Constitutional amendment for Congress to have the power to regulate flight schools. Until then, it's not Constitutional!
