Rand Paul to Propose Moratorium on Foreign Nationals at U.S. Flight Schools

Do you think this will be discarded? Giving TSA, DHS, and Congress more authority over this make believe "issue" seems like a terrible idea. How about legislation to disband TSA and DHS? That I can get behind...

I'm reminded of this:

Politicians and the public keep stating that 911 will never be repeated. Given that the DHS and TSA is running wild, let's sic them on foreign nationals to prove a point. Are the democrats and republicans serious about protecting the U.S. from serious threats? If so they'll vote for this. Rand Paul is so cognizant jumping ahead on legislation like this by setting a trap.

Those pricks in Congress have no qualms about selling our rights down the river with the Patriot Act but now suddenly forbidding foreign nationals from flight schools in light of 911 is some kind of great sin?? I would love to see the vote results for pure amusement purposes. I'm confident it won't get passed.

Yes, let's root for more shitty anti-freedom legislation that will never go away.

I'm pretty confident it won't get passed. Foreign nationals are treated like royalty as opposed to American citizens. You watch. I bet the so-called security hawks vote against this as well. Corrupt hypocrites every last one of them.

If you really want to fight terror, these are the type of laws that you need. I love Rand Paul for pointing out the obvious in this entire charade. TSA harasses old women and babies but foreign nationals aren't forbidden for flight school training in light of 911?? Really???

All these illegal foreign nationals are still attending our flight schools, just like before, with little to no effort to screen them. The war on terror must be over then? The TSA is obsolete. If they can't demonstrate seriousness for the purpose they were actually set up to do, and do something obvious about it (that should have been done right from day one), then there is no reason to keep expanding the TSA into our buses and subway systems, etc. No reason to justify all the new DHS spending for grant programs to cities for surveillance camera installation, etc. Period. The TSA has demonstrated complete ineffectiveness, or else they are trying to solve a problem that just isn't there in the first place.

How would this not also be selling our rights down the river?

It shows Rand actually cares about our national security. I'd much rather him in charge--if there was a real threat/attack, I believe he would shut the source of the threat down immediately, no nonsense, until the threat is over. And if there wasn't an actual threat, he wouldn't continue to drag us into an expensive, civil liberties crushing, decade long boondoggle that does nothing to actually make us safer.

How about we let each flight school decide who they're willing to teach? Maybe we could hold them legally responsible IF they should have known someone was there just to act out a terror plot.

You know, innocent until proven guilty, all people created equal and all that...

If Rand wasn't a neocon, he would end our meddling rather than end more liberties.

What genius, using fear and intimidation during an election year. If it worked before, it can work again.

A future Rand speech might look something like this...lol:

Hello, I'm Rand Paul (911)
I'm here to tell you how great (911) America can be.
The rest of the world (911) hates us for our freedoms (911)
Join us (911) in our crusade to eliminate (911) the threat of terror (911) and spread democracy (911) and liberty (911) throughout the world (911)
911, 911, 911, 911, 911
Thank You (911) and GOD BLESS AMERICA........YAYYYYYYYYYY....911

Not our rights. Foreign nationals. Rand made an oath to defend the constitution and not to play footsies with foreign nationals. Meanwhile, Americans are treated like dogs under the guise of national security. It's time to call their bluff. What is the WoT and the extreme escalation of the surveillance state about?? Is it about curtailing potential terrorist threats emanating from foreign locales or setting up an elaborate security grid to monitor and discourage the American people?

Major

Rand isn't a neocon. Don't be ridiculous.

Not our rights. Foreign nationals.
How is it not our rights?
Do I not have the right to sell my labor in the form of giving people flight lessons and to decide for myself who I want to do that business with?

Wonder what the reaction would be if this wasn't Ron Paul's own son. Im sure we'd all be calling him a neocon.

Mayor banning Chick-Fil-A...bad!
Ron Paul's son telling a business what to do...good!

I can see this debate during WWII.
and some people in this thread would be supporting the internment of japanese americans because "they might be terrorist".
and the best reason i can be given as to why is because to do otherwise would be idiotic.
i'm still not buying the politics of fear and hate.
I would rather contend with the inconveniences of too much liberty than contend with the inconveniences of not enough...

It's called calling one's bluff. I love this type of legislation that exposes the War on Terror and the surveillance state for the fraud that it is.
Common sense solutions are discarded while the average citizen gets treated like a criminal.

You know, some years ago (before Ron Paul even ran for president) I would point out the Pakistani involvement with Al Qaeda and the Taliban to "call the bluff" of those who supported the war in Iraq. Their response was "What do you want to do? Bomb Pakistan?" Obama got elected....and proceeded to bomb Pakistan. :o :(

Isn't this similar to Ron's proposal that student VISA's should be banned for any country that "supports terrorism?"

I never was that crazy about that idea. But at least it was narrowly tailored and it didn't put an extra regulatory burden on private business. Someone comes in for flight lessons and you have to check his immigration status?

Fact: We were attacked on 9-11 by foreign nationals. And these foreign nationals were trained to fly in America.

Personally, I would have temporarily shut down all visas from the countries from whom the bombers were citizens.

There. No problem with dictating to businesses.
