Rand Paul: ‘Disaster’ Trump Turning GOP Into ‘The Old White Man’s Party’

racist? really? and you call me "not bright"? ok.. i'll bite how is trump a racist? by opposing the iraq invasion? by stopping the massive flood of immigrants that take our jobs? by putting tariffs on communist slave labor goods? by giving putin a green light to take out isis? i'll wait sgt150 liberty boy.... this should be good.

I said you're the racist if you think Trump's policies are good. He doesn't even believe the shit he's saying. He just knows it appeals to the lowest common denominator, which apparently includes you.

There were members of the original Ron Paul 2008 movement that were a complete liability and ended up costing us a lot of support with fence-sitters, and I recall BenMuldowney leaning in that direction in terms of his viewpoints. I knew that when a certain number of them went totally ballistic over Rand endorsing Romney in 2012 (the election was over by that point, I was on the ground here in Pennsylvania as a poll worker, we did not have the delegates to keep Romney from getting the nomination even with all the states where we did win) that there was a severe lack of rationality and practicality in said contingent, and this sort of craziness and fanaticism is exactly where Trump's occasional crumbs of conventional libertarianism are focused, peeling off people too angry to think straight.

As someone who is myself more of a nationalist and am not really any type of egalitarian (more a paleo-con than a libertarian), I am nevertheless unable to sympathize with people on the Trump train. Opposing the Iraq War on one end and then yammering about using nukes against ISIS and taking Libya's oil on the other end leaves the rank smell of bullshit in my nostrils, and it's the same with this "build a wall, but have a nice big open door in the middle" crap, as if we're being overrun by barbarian Mongolians and need a barrier, yet plan on simply blowing a few billion dollars to make their point of entry more picturesque.

Oh, and in interests of full disclosure, I just bombarded Ben with as much negative rep as I could muster. Coming on this forum and doing this "Rand has .00001% chance of winning" shtick is the same as endorsing Trump. You're on the wrong forum pal, take this crap over to Breitbart.

I always get offended when called white, because it's such a rudimentary way of classifying people, as if the only part of your dna that matters is the part that determines how much melatonin is in your skin.

A 'disaster' on it's way to the GOP nomination. Poor Rand Paul is watching at home. One of the broadest coalitions in America that garners high numbers of blacks, blue collar workers and others.

Being interviewed on MSNBC and saying that the GOP is becoming the party of old white men is all but an recommendation for young people to vote Democrat. In fact, I think Rand's campaign would have been more suited for the Democratic party.

You really wonder who got to him or was it just bad campaign advice? Trump is doing exactly what Rand planned to do with building diverse coalition outside of the Republican base. That's the irony in all this.

But the biggest news is Trump is earning MAJOR support from segments of the population which almost exclusively vote for Democrats. SurveyUSA announced that Donald Trump would receive 25% among black registered voters. That is news that has Hillary Clinton terrified, and is shaking the political establishment to the core!

Rand Paul wants the Republican Party to continue to be competitive in an America experiencing demographic change. The GOP cannot continue being competitive unless it begins to appeal to blacks, Hispanics, or both.

I'm not sure what's going on. But considering that Hillary is under neocon control and every bit as much of a warmonger as the worst GOP candidate, it seems like a bad time for any Republican to be making statements damaging to the GOP.

It's a bad situation all around, but the Democrats are fielding 2 particularly dangerous candidates this cycle.

Yes, but Rand was trying to do so by advocating social justice. You can't beat the Democrats at their own game without alienating the base of the GOP.

Republicans aren't social justice warriors.

You can appeal to minorities without adopting the flawed flag of social justice. I agree.

Rand was arguing for solutions to issues that disproportionately affect minority communities from a libertarian angle. He did so without veering into SJW territory.

He should have done it somewhere other than Ferguson Missouri.

The GOP has two Latinos and an African-American running for President. How is that not appealing?

This is not a smart thing to say. Democrats are running two people who could not be whiter. And, oddly, the one who actually took a risk on civil rights is not the one who claims to do the most for black people.
