Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is the latest GOP presidential candidate to jump on 2016 frontrunner Ben Carson's theory that the pyramids were created by the biblical figure Joseph to store grain.

"I'’m really big into conspiracy theories, so I think they were probably built by the aliens as grain silos, don’t you think," Paul joked, when asked about Carson's idea on 1110AM WBT, as reported by Buzzfeed.

"Rand Paul believes the pyramids were built by aliens", story at 11.

Ben Carson's view on how the pyramids were built and what they were for was influenced by hollywood. Rand's joke makes even more sense. We have no idea how the pyramids were built.

I would be careful if I were Rand, when talking about Carson. Rand may be the most likely to be endorsed by Ben when he drops.

Hollywood? So why did some people in the middle ages believe the pyramids were built for grain storage? Steven Speilberg went back in time in a Delorean and showed them a movie?

Your last sentence is correct. We know idea how the pyramids were built. But we also have no idea why the great pyramid was built. No treasures were found in it when it was first opened and there was no sign of previous entry. There are no hieroglyphs on the walls. There's nothing in it to conclude it was a burial chamber. And yet we have all of these "know it alls", who also believe your exhaling is contributing to glacier melting, saying "Of course Ben Carson is wrong because they were all toombs."

The "some pyramids were granaries" theory solves two otherwise unsolvable problems. What was the great pyramid built for, and what happened to the granaries Joseph must have built to outlast a 7 year famine. Did the Egyptians just tear it down when they were no longer needed? Was the story of Joseph a myth? You might believe it was myth (not sure if you do or not) but the evangelicals who are going to determine the winner in Iowa don't believe it's a myth.

^This. The main reason people here hate on Carson is because he's ahead of Rand Paul in the primary. If Rand was at 20% and Ben was at 2 - 5% nobody would care and most would see him as a natural ally.

Is Rand just trying to see if he can make every primary voter hate him?

I hate it whenever someone tries to relay to me an inconvenient truth such as the fact that the man I had been supporting to run the US economy and the military is a complete idiot. It should hurt at first but after a few days sleeping on it, the hate should turn to into something like appreciation.

It's a thankless job but someone has to do it.

Except in this case many of Carson's detractors who think all of the pyramids were built to be tombs are the idiots.

Rand needs to focus on crop circles. Try and get Carson to engage.

Carson should focus on WTC 7. Try and get Rand to engage. Or maybe both should focus on Hillary Clinton and the fact that she voted for the Iraq war and her and all of the republicans who did are total idiots.

This kind of mocking wouldn't hurt Rand with mainstream evangelicals because they don't even believe that Joseph built the pyramids.

Pyramids were built by many Egyptian rulers over many dynasties. It's almost certain that Joseph, if he existed, was involved in building at least one pyramid being second in command to a great pharoah. We know for a fact that the largest pyramid built was not built to be a tomb. Was it built to hold grain? Was it built as some kind of hydrogen power plant as speculated on the History Channel? Was it built as a landing pad for aliens? Seriously nobody knows and one speculation isn't any worse than the other.
