Rand one-ups Ben Carson on the pyramids (joke)

isn't there an empty sarcophagus in the larger pyrimid?...can't say for sure those structures weren't meant to be tombs, but i suppose everything is still on the table as to why they were built. Usually the simple expanations are the best...never know for sure i suppose...interesting topic though.

its in all of them.... but theyre not sarcophagi like in the burial tombs... they look more like a chest freezer.. no writings or drawings on them. no tombs have ever been found and this includes pyramids that were blocked since antiquity with huge stones when finally unblocked were empty.

This is what they look like inside:

That's some efficient construction for a grain storage facility isn't it?

These are colossal structures, each one made up of around 2 million bricks weighing in at around 3 tons each.

I cringed at hearing Rand joke about conspiracy theories, since that term was used so frequently to smear his father.

Tying people to "conspiracy theories" is a media-accepted way of saying that someone is crazy, that everything they say is crazy, and if you listen to anything that person says, you are also crazy. It's another form of name-calling and it's way overdone. I don't like to see him stooping to "their" level.

Also Carson has said positive things about Rand in the past - although he also stated after the first debate, that he was surprised by how agressive the behavior was and mentioned Rand Paul. I'm hoping Carson supporters move to Rand later on, since he also has that "doctor thing" about him.

The hubris is incredible.

"Egyptologists want him to leave the speculation to the experts.

"The pyramids in Egypt were not created to store grain, nor were they ever used to store grain, as far as we know," Laurel D. Bestock, an assistant professor of archaeology and Egyptology at Brown University, told Mic through laughter. "

jmdrake is right. This type of argument is the exact same thing we got about climate change. Us peons are not allowed question the experts or even form our own theories.

Climate Science is a incredibly complex field containing many unknowns. The Great Pyramid is a single building, still standing, that has been thoroughly explored. We know exactly how big the Chambers are inside and that the total space available is utterly inadequate to serve as a grain silo. So it is not the same type of argument at all.

I have many disagreements regarding how anthropologists and geologists assume things regarding the time periods of various historic events, but it's pretty hard to argue that the pyramids were used as giant grain silos when there is no historical basis for it, and there is not enough room inside them for such a thing to be pulled off. I'm a full out believer that the biblical Joseph not only existed, but that there was a 7 year famine and that he had an accurate prophecy regarding it and measures were taken. There is nothing in the Genesis account regarding the pyramids being used for grain, nor is there any mention of pyramids in any scriptures apart from maybe a passing reference in the Deuterocanonical 1 Maccabees 13:28-38, but these had no connection to the Great Pyramids of Egypt and were more likely small sepulchers that would resemble monuments in a cemetery than a massive temple-like structure.

I should also state that I think that Anthropomorphic Global Warming/Climate Change is largely pseudo-science. I'm not convinced that there is any dramatic impact on weather patterns based on human activity, and I'm highly skeptical of the same so-called academic community that has repeatedly lied, falsified and manipulated data in order to push this garbage. Carson's remarks are of a different category as he is arguing against things that are easily observable, and it was pretty clear that he was speaking on these matters not only out of ignorance of archaeological discoveries, but also out of ignorance of what scripture says and doesn't say.

I think he'll unfold as a not plausible candidate now.

Hope we get this question asked again . . . to clarify the candidates position at the Tuesday debate.
Maybe Huck won't be the only one hugging on to the book of Genesis so tight again.

That's the reason I could never run for office and win. I would step foot first into the gotcha questions.

I would be careful if I were Rand, when talking about Carson. Rand may be the most likely to be endorsed by Ben when he drops.

This!

While Rand makes jokes, Cruz is no doubt going to take every opportunity he can to defend Carson when asked to comment by the MSM. Guess who former Carson supporters will have a more positive opinion of (and therefore, be more likely to gravitate towards) once he (Carson) eventually drops out?

Seriously, what's Rand's strategy with comments like this and others against Carson (and more broadly, Trump)?

I think we all know that no one will actually endorse Rand until he's the last man standing.

As others have said, a quick glance at the structure of the pyramids proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were not built for storing grain.

That said, it's doubtful that they were built for storing dead kings either.

1. No bodies were ever found*, even in undisturbed pyramids.

*except for bodies which have been dated to long after the pyramids were built, i.e. some of the pyramids were evidently repurposed as tombs at a later date

2. The so-called sarcophagi are very different from known Egyptian sarcophagi (no inscriptions, too small).

3. There are quite a few pyramids in Egypt that we know for a fact weren't used as tombs (the "provincial" pyramids, which are solid: no internal chambers at all).

4. Several of the kings who built pyramids are known to have been buried elsewhere, in mastabas, not in the pyramids they built.

My take was that Rand was making reference with that joke to the fact that the media had already called him and his father and their supporters conspiracy theorists.

More of a dig at past treatment rather than "attacking" Carson.

Ben Carson's view on how the pyramids were built and what they were for was influenced by hollywood. Rand's joke makes even more sense. We have no idea how the pyramids were built.
Trump made Mexico build it.

Hollywood? So why did some people in the middle ages believe the pyramids were built for grain storage? Steven Speilberg went back in time in a Delorean and showed them a movie?
You tell me why they believed it. I know that many Americans believe that the Hebrews during Moses' time built the pyramids. The movie, The 10 Commandments, put forth that narrative. But the proof of that has yet to be found. I'm not saying Ben believes that but I am saying it played probably played a role in that statement. That's what I meant by Hollywood. Genesis mentions the great pyramids because Genesis was written after they were built. Of course you and I are going to disagree whether Genesis is a true story. But if you were going to write a story that includes the beginning of not just human life, but also all life, then why would you not include the pyramids; whether you are telling the truth or not? The Egyptian pyramids were able to be traveled to by the people who allegedly lived during biblical times and by those who first adopted the scrolls that would eventually become the bible. Things like the Aztec temples were not, so they get no mention.

Wait! They had illegal immigration back in the days of early Egypt? :D

ya, they were called Semites.
and mostly hailed from the Arabian peninsula.
