I've been hit hard by the economic crisis and I can't afford to donate to the Ron Paul campaign without giving something up. I want to quit smoking anyway, so I can use donating to the Ron Paul campaign as motivation to quit. I smoke about 3 packs of cigarettes a week, which are about $7 a pack here. So, every week that I don't smoke, I'm going to donate $21 to the campaign. I'll use my desire to get Dr. Paul in the white house as fuel for motivation to quit smoking.

Who's with me? Anyone else want to quit smoking for Ron Paul?

Good idea. :)

For those that find it too difficult...I'd urge you to try the "e-cig" route...which should save you a substantial amount of money, as well as not having to deal with the whole tar and stinking thing.

Or start making your own and give the difference to Ron Paul. We pay about $17 for 2.5 cartons, which is enough for me, my wife and stepson for a week.
Get yourself a Top-O-Matic, "pipe" tobacco is $12/lb, and tubes are about $2.50 per 200.
I went to MYO as soon as S-Chip kicked in. Cigs taste better, burn longer, and are practically tax free.

I'm with ya, I'm a year + where the HI government and the Fed hasn't gotten a dime of mine from me buying my precious... as my wife used to tease me.

I did it for me first though. My family, Ron, and Liberty benefit as well!

Feels pretty darn good! Keep at it!

I decided to abstain from nicotine use 94 days ago (1.5 cans of chew a day).. If you'd like to check out an online self help group, killthecan.org or whackthepack.org is a group of everyday quitters just like you who are about to go thru the same withdrawls and readjustments of dissolving their dependency of nicotine slavery. Its a great system of accountability with the members. There are forums/chat/articles to help you through the process.

Educating myself of the chemical affects of nicotine on the human brain and central nervous system as-well as anticipating the withdrawl effects have tremendously helped me be successful in continuing my Quit.

I think quitting for Dr. Paul would be a great idea but primarily it needs to be for YOU.. There are many tricks that your brain will tell you in order to continue using, I find becoming extremely angry at Big Tobacco helps :)

I just quit the "analog" cigarettes about 3 weeks ago. Went to an electronic and haven't looked back yet! $20 for a carton and a half ain't bad at all!

I don't smoke, but I do buy around $15-20 of beer a week. Not exactly a vice, but I'll quit that for the next few months to donate!

Funny I found this thread while lighting up.

I've gone the E-cig route. It never quite satisfied my craving. Didn't feel the same.

On a side note the vaporizer got stuck on and melted a cartridge, burning my lips.

I've recently switched to ultra-lights. Sure, they kill you just as dead, but at least I can breath like I used to.

<----- 6 yrs of Copenhagen Longcut (Smokeless Tobacco).

1 week quit. It was nice getting paid today and not having to take out $50 to go buy the roll with.

I have an all natural cigarette business in Reno. I can hook anyone (18 or over) up with the best way to Make Your Own (MYO)
I will sell to any Ron Paul supporter for a discount and then you can smoke if you do and still donate to RP!!

We sell cartons here for 16.95 per carton
Quit if you can!

Some things that always hold value in rough times:

Guns
Gold
Food
Tobacco

That's what I am doing.

I went the e-cig route. It took a while to find what worked for me, but it is amazingly cheap and I haven't touched a cigarette in 9 months nor had the desire to.

A couple problems I had at first:

Batteries that didn't last long enough
Cartridges that didn't last long and were very inconsistent
Not nearly enough vapor

I ended up going with an Ego-T passthru battery. It has the bonus of being able to smoke it while its charging, and just unplug the USB cable when you want to go. It lasts me all day (both the 650mah and the 900mah versions).

With it I use Ego Mega dual coil cartomizers. They are $2.80 each. These things are amazing, completely consistent, hold a ton of fluid - easily lasts me all day. They are easily refilled - I replace them about once a week. It's important to refill them before they are empty, or you will burn the wick and it will taste like crap.

I use USA Mix china fluid, its about $10 for 50ml - lasts me about a month.

$20 one-time for a battery, $20/month for supplies - never feel the need to touch a cigarette.. no ash, no butts, no smell - its absolutely amazing. And definitely beats the $150 or so a month i was spending on cigarettes. Tried the gum/patch/cold turkey etc all before.

I'm a dripper.:D

The company where I get my supplies are Ron Paul supporters. They show RP videos on their website sometimes.
